To be honest, I do think the sticky 2x2's are a lot more 'attractive' to look at than stapled ones. There's also the plus of not having to worry about staples scratching the insides of vinyl binder sheets; which happens even with 'flat' staples. However, I only use stapled 2x2's. Although I normally just use a new 2x2 if I need to open an already stapled one, I have re-stapled the original a few times in the past. Also, like others have mentioned, I'm not sure about the long-time effects of glue on the insides of 2x2's. I use glue now (Elmer's Glue Sticks) to attach labels to the outside of my 2x2's, but, being on the other side of the coin doesn't worry me. Quick answer: staples.

Staples. I tried the self-sealing type a long time ago. It was not a good time.

I prefer the self-adhesives, myself. Woo hoo! I'm in the minority! Stapled 2x2s do have advantages mentioned above, such as the lack of potentially suspicious adhesives, and their re-usability. I still prefer the "clean look" of self-adhesives. Plus, the staples always seem to get in the way of trying to write stuff on the 2x2. When I record country, denomination, date, mintmark, price-paid-code, collection database number, reference catalogue numbers, purchase date and who I acquired it from, any variety notes worth noting, and the recasing history if applicable, I frankly need all the writing space I can get.

Staple guy 2x2 over here.
If you cannot find a flat clinch stapler, no biggie.
Just use needle nose pliers to flatten them.

Staples only for me; I like being able to take easily take the coins in and out of the holders for taking pictures or simply for better viewing. I had an inexpensive flat-clinch stapler from Amazon before I started using 2x2 holders, as I often carried large binders of paper documents with me when I was traveling on business and the flat-clinch staples just worked better...

I generally mostly prefer 2x2s using a Flat Clinch stapler such as Max Hd-11Flk (Black) Vaimo Stapler which overall is the most cost effective and works. I suggest however trying one pack of Supersafe brand Self Seal Flips - Assorted (this one has different sizes in one cheap pack (at littleton coin is actually good priced for some reason as many of their product seems overpriced) and giving your thoughts here on them. This would be the only one so far that might be good imo after research but wondering about how long the adhesive lasts. These are less cost effective than the 2x2 with staples as well.
Two other options I'm experimenting with are BCW Coin Snaps or Intercept 2x2 coin holders for some higher value coins and saflips which are double pocket holders where you can place a cardboard insert in one with information. The saflips also are at littleton if you cant find them. The saflips were because I had many coins I needed to pull out a few times for photos or rechecking for error or variety and was easier than using a MAX USA CORP. RZ-F staple remover for the flat clinch staples or cut them off to open and use a new 2x2 afterwards. I also keep some for sending in coins for grading even if not using them for storage. Would also like input for those that have used any of these or try them.

I know it wasn't on the list of choices, but Saflips are a good alternative. Safe, room for 2x2 insert that holds way .ore info than a 2x2, easy to remove and re-insert coins, and heat sealing is a simple option.
