Since they are only putting together 50,000 of the special sets has any one heard of a limit on orders?

Any chance of them making this the last year for the ubiquitous 1 cent coin?

Know it is the 12th but anyone know what time they start taking orders. The last time I tried to get a 50,000 limited set got on 1st thing in the morning and they were gone already. Me thinks that home shopping channel gets 20,000 right off the bat? http://frwebgate.access.gpo.gov/cgi...l285.109.pdf

http://frwebgate.access.gpo.gov/cgi...l285.109.pdfWell the link above is the Public-Law for the Lincoln Silver dated Sept. 27, 2006 section #6 under the sale of coin states Discounts for bulk orders should be excepted if pre-paid beginning Jan 1, 2009. I called the US Mint to place my order and they said they do not go on sale till Feb 12th at 12 noon I quoted the Pubic Law and she said they do not go on sale to anyone till 2-12-2009 at 12 noon. Guess the public law is not for the public.

The five piece sets WILL NOT be on sale Feb 12, a release date has not been set yet. Also, the Mint currently has this policy in place(taken directly from the Lincoln commem press release)- Note: To ensure that all members of the public have fair and equal access to United States Mint products, any order placed prior to the official on-sale date and time (February 12, 2009, 12:00 Noon ET) shall not be deemed accepted by the United States Mint and will not be honored. http://www.usmint.gov/pressroom/ind...lease&ID=986

[quote]I think the ban will be lifted when one of two things happens. Enough time passes so that the number of copper cents in circulation becomes a very small percentage of the total, or a couple years after the cent is discontinued and it ceases to be a circulating coin for all practical purposes. (Unlike many people who claim that the cent will circulate for a long time because of all of the billions of them out there in hoards,I believe that the cent will cease to actively circulate within less than two years fter it is discontinued. Possibly as little as one year, and much of the circulation will dry up within a matter of just a few months.) __________________ [/quote Will this happen?

Last year for the cent? I think not. It takes congress to change coinage, so at the rate congress is doing things right now, we'll probably see the end of the cent in 2012

Personally, I don't see a problem with changing the back of the cent. We had 50 years of Wheat and now 50 years of the Lincoln Memorial. The State Quarter series was stupid, five different reverses a year, but the same can be said about having the same reverse for 50 years. Now if the Mint goes with 4 different reverses every year, then it falls into the same category as the State Quarter series, stupid. Maybe they will see which of the 4 is the most popular this year and have that reverse for the next 50 years. Personally, I like the Log Cabin, it is such an iconic symbol of America.

Creep welcome to the coin forum in answer to your question Feb 12th and you can go to the us mint web site and order these or wait for the bank to get them in another month or so. http://www.usmint.com

Thanks for the reply, Brucec. I registered and will try to get them from the mint online. I got my first US $1 from a toll collector today and they are pretty neat as well.

You should be able to get all the President dollars at the banks if you ask at different banks and look through them.
Or ask for rolls keep what you want take the rest back.
