Price aside, I find the obverse spot detracting. This would bother me.

It seems like a nice example for about $10. Numismedia shows $16 for G4 and this coin is better than that.

On the semantics issue, the OP is from Germany. "Specimen" translates to Probe, and if you translate Probe from German into English, you get "example." This makes me curious - @HP2001PH, are there German phrases specific to the mint coinage types we call business/circulation, Proof, and Specimen?

I don't like this one.

You spent 2K on a Gold Bullion.

You can buy an MS66 BLAZER for under $50 bucks.

This is what I suggest you do.

I bought the coin for 8€ plus shipping, thanks for your opinions.

To the topic of „specimen" - I just meant copy, I was not aware that there is a special numismatic meaning to it in english.

I understand now that it means „better than business strike, but not quite proof".

„Proof" in German is „polierte Platte" (PP), for „specimen" there is no equivalent I believe.

NGC on their price guide retails a 1914 MS66 at $695. I recently sold a PCGS 1914 AU58 on ebay for over $50, and the AU58 retails at $50.

Post some photo's once you get the coin in hand.

Directly translated as "polished plate", which is a good description. Perhaps "specimen" would be "speziell geprägt"?

Surfaces may have been messed with at one point, could also just be the lighting and images. Personally I think you did very well for just 8€! I like it. Congrats on your first example/specimen!

If I'm not mistaken, my MS66 example for my registry ran me north of $700. If you can find one for under $100 I'll buy every one of them and double your money

Kbbpll,

Hard to say for me, as I am still not entirely sure what „specimen" as a numismatic term exactly means.

Slider- Clearly he's just talking about a "type" coin.

Obviously I wasn't referring to a 1914, but rather a common date type 2 reverse at MS66 is obtainable for relatively cheap.

I didn't think I had to clarify this, I know others knew exactly what I meant.

*I've got to mention TY in here too since I just noticed he also thought I was referring to a 1914.

TY and Slider-

You two have a good start for a circus

I did not spend hours on this, but a high-grade MS nickel of any date for under 100€ I have not found from a European location.

US yes, but incl. shipping it was again three figures. Under 50€ - glad for a hint where to buy this.

Eight Euros was a good price for that example, a solid extra-fine. If you like the design and interested in more detailed information I'd suggest the book "The Complete Guide to Buffalo nickels" by David Lange which is available at Amazon.
