Burfle23 ... You need to get in contact with Mike Marshal up here in Canada. HE is the Canadian expert on fakes of Canadian coinage, and ESPECIALLY the Chinese. His moniker here on CCF is nickelsguy.

You should change that to "not very good at", you didn't even bother to look close by, there are pics right here on this forum. I'm not going to do your legwork for you. I replied "why" a while back because I was pretty sure you had found other images ( it's easy on this site and elsewhere) and wondered about your motivation.

What is the point of posting that you're going to go out of your way to not help somebody?

Because this particular OP must know about the primary source of Chinese counterfeits and how to navigate their site. I'm curious as to why he wants others to provide pics.

If there are "pics right here on this forum" of an 1882 10c counterfeit, please post a link, because I sure can't easily find one.

There are also no 1882 on that "primary source" assuming you mean 40 thieves. I looked through all 19 pages of results for "1882." However, if you search for "canada 10 cent" there are some lots of other date Victorian, some with H.

Jack, if you're looking for a source coin, I think it's a waste of time, since it could be any date with the date scraped off a master and then given a variety of dates on working dies. Here is the best I could do with a screenshot. As far as a "family" of counterfeits, they all seem to share a missing stem below the top right leaf (but that seems to be common on several dates).

WOW, thanks DBM for your non-help, A?

Why do you even bother to respond?

Good afternoon Jack. The coin you are inquiring about is indeed counterfeit. It is a second generation (off junk dies) manufactured by Hong Kong (HK) Replica coins. They have cleaned up some of the legends (in particular the I's but forgot an important one. The main markers are still present. The second A in GRATIA is hooked. The outside leaf at 4 0'clock extends inside the branch and the date and H are wrong. I am providing a 20yr old scan of a slag planchet version of Gen 1. Please note the A, date and leaf.
There are many of the second generation floating around. I have seen numerous dates and denominations.

The color alone screams Chinese fake. Same as all the "coins" (including US versions) available from this supplier.

I found this (OP's) fake and all of its counterparts (and their pictures) in under a minute.

The simplicity of the search, OP'S low post count, and thinly veiled questions regarding counterfeit diagnostics would of course raise suspicions. Being backed up by another member with a low post count probably adds more to that.

Not saying it's right, but you have have to see how this could raise a few eyebrows?

Thanks again for the useful posts about how easy it is to search for something. For example, the top result for "Jack Young coin" returns a list of the 43 articles he's written. Very suspicious indeed!

burfle23 .... Why won't you come back? I put you in touch with the CANADIAN expert on Chinese fakes, just like you are for US. He was asked by the US House of Reps to help them draft possible legislation on making fakes in or for the US. Just because one person here misunderstood your post or your words is no reason to get nasty. This is a good site and now more people are aware of your writings. I'd say that you did quite well being here.

I am curious; I looked at DBM's profile and wonder if he actually is the original poster of anything or just snipes at others?
