Something I didn't consider was D over S. It has at least one possible die marker for that. I'll try and get some photos of it and where the other markers should be. It's less desirable than the inverted D but I'm just trying to at least authenticate and grade to see if it's worth enough to send in for professional authentication. The problem I'm having is this D seems different then others I am finding photos of. Can't seem to match it up very accurately.

i would attempt to verify that there is at least a possibility of something going on before putting out $$ for slabbing. looks like something different than you normally see but I am not a washington person. hand in there maybe you can get some more comments on it

Here are the close ups of the areas where there should be die markers for the D over S. The head crack is there but not so much the forehead one. The crack on the front base of the bust is not really there either.   Here is a comparison of my mint mark to variety vistas inverted D (FS-501)   The more I look at it I am still leaning toward the FS-501 Edited by captainkurt

Update - I was looking at photos of the PCGS graded examples and found a matching die marker to the right of the L in Liberty on both the PCGS coins. My coin has the same die marker as well. However there are still differences that I can not explain on the mint mark.

I would speak for the Community and ask for naked photos. Photos are obscured. By the celluloid?

The photos are of the naked coin and are not under the celluloid. I use a flip to hold the coin but it is sitting on top of the holder and not in it.

the FS-501 looks like it has an extension of the inverted D to the left of the top D. I'm not seeing that on yours however maybe in hand if you are rotating the coin you may see something. Quote:

Thanx everyone for the feedback. I agree, this is not the D over S. I can not match the mint mark to any photos on variety vista or PCGS. There is no doubt I have something.
I reached out to James at variety vista. I have also posted on Coneca. Trying to figure out my next steps. If this is what I think it is, either the FS-501 with a cleaner RPM than any that have been publicly photographed or something new , I am leaning toward PCGS for authentication.
That being said, I will go through the process to have it attributed by either Coneca or Variety Vista. I just haven't figured out all the charges, processes, and if PCGS will care if it has being attributed by either VV or Coneca.

I'll wait another day or so if anyone wants to give any grading comments and then I will have this thread sent over to the error forum while I go through this authorization/attribution process.
Any comments on grade will help very much as the final authentication/grade/value will effect my budget significantly on what I can spend to get this thing all figured out.
This should be a fun thread if it goes all the way through the process and possibly ends up a winner and finds it's way to heritage auctions.
I don't think this will hit the MS-65 grade
Feild marks below and above liberty and to the right of the head.
There larger marks on creek, head, front hair line.
Revers has a mark on the right leg and small marks on the wings in many places.
Strike looks good enough for MS-64
What do you all think?

Wow Indiangoldeagle, you may be right! In just the right light I can see some break in the luster in some places. Not sure which way a TPG would grade this possible slider. Nevertheless, I am more and more certain regarding the FS-501 designation and with the scarcity and auction prices of MS64's, I think it's worth taking the next step. I'm sending this off the Variety Vista today. Hopefully, at a minimum, updated photos of some of the die markers I have found can make it on the site.
