Awww I tried I am always surprised how many people want to pay so much money for a common coin.

Are there the V.D.B. initials on the reverse of this cent?
Photo is so poor it's hard to tell if even there. I'd think you could discern something that might look like initials (full or partial) despite the poor photos. That said, I don't see anything I'd consider initials on the reverse.

VDB is there and I think it's genuine. But the buyer way overpaid for a crummy-looking example.

Disregard my last post ... I was looking at a wrong photo.
Given the photos I'm now looking at, I'd have to pass on it as it can't be determined from these photos if it meets the basic diagnostics required to confirm it's likely authentic.

I hear the words "raw" and "1909-S VDB" I get very uncomfortable. Just sayin'. If this is a coin dealer they understand the power of good photos while also realizing what can be hidden with poor ones.

For the $810 price paid I believe the buyer could have obtained a Good range slabbed example with better eye appeal and more confidence in authenticity.

Looks to be genuine, I don't see any immediate red flags but you can't fully authentic with the given photos. For sure it's been corroded and cleaned, also damage on the right wheat lines - around F12. About a $300 max roll of the dice IMO.

I want one badly, and I would not have bid on this one - given the bad images provided...

Unless there are fantastic pics and a reputable seller, it would have to be slabbed for me to buy it via internet auction.

Isn't that how some auctions go?
A little bidding frenzy with some poorer customer grading skills and voila ... someone spends far more than they should on item. I think there's some type of advanced theorem of psychology that accounts for this FOMO law of science.
