Well, if raised, then it could be a slight die crack, but being so straight - it could also be a small gouge or scratch on the die.

This error was mentioned to be found on only 1999-P Delaware quarters, which were struck at the Philadelphia Mint. Nobody is quite sure how many were made but based on the number of collectors who've found these error quarters there are probably several thousand specimens of this Delaware quarter error floating around. The Spitting Horse Delaware quarter error was caused by a die crack running from the mouth of the horse that Caesar Rodney is riding all the way down through the "C" in "Caesar". However on Coneca I had read someones post that mentioned Denver example(s) similar to the Philadelphia "i also find it interesting that the same die crack has occurred in both the Philadelphia minted coins as well as the Denver minted coins." although there were no posted photos. So perhaps its not a unique find? but a very cool one  and clearly may be more rare to find since I dont find mention of Denver at all in most articles on it. I you do a spitting horse search , here on the forum, you will find that there are a number of different dies that developed this spitting horse crack in slightly different directions. This seems to be a weak area of the design so it only makes sense that a Denver die of this design would develop a crack in this area.

Thanks stoneman227, yes the link I posted above mentions that as well - "I have several die cracks that seem to show a progression of the die crack." and "I now have 16 Delaware die crack "Spitting Horse" and each one is different." but I did not find any photos of a Denver one easily, only the mention which suggests that they are out there just not common like the philadelphia so any additional photos/finds of a denver might be helpful for future info and searchers. Just a Die event due to aging anvil. It is No error and also No variety.

I'm not really into quarters but love varieties and die events of all denominations. Congrats on the find. Quote:
... also No variety. Mon ami, lots of folks would consider this a variety since it is on all coins produced from the dies. It may not be valuable, but it is collectible as a variety to lots of folks. Words of encouragement are one of the major food groups.
We need to consume them regularly to thrive and grow.

Thanks for the info. Do you know where I could find a reference to a Die event due to worn anvil? I couldn't find anything on error-ref.com. What's the main differences or key indicators between the die event and the spitting horse error? Again thanks everyone for all the feedback.
