That's exactly how I got started collecting coins, Dad gave me a "funny penny" he got in change at the hardware store when I was around 9 or 10. I saved it in a little box, and then added/kept any other strange looking coins as I came across them in change over the years, Canadian cents, wheat cents, etc. Ya never know where that one little coin can lead to. By the time I was 15 I was becoming a serious collector and buying older coins from a coin shop.
