Okay...so back to the original low-life ebay seller (a female, if you believe the name I'm getting along with the emails from "her") He emailed me and said that he'd lower the price to between $150 and $200 if I was interested. At this point, I stopped responding. After about 12 more hours he sends another email and says he'd consider dropping it to between $90 and $130 and that I should just make him an offer. So, at that point I sent him an email telling him that I think I have an email problem and haven't been getting his emails and that I have to make a decision soon. So he writes back to me, lickety-split (<-- that's old-speak for REAL FAST), that he can definitely LOWER the price to $200. He also says he has a bid on it, so the Buy It Now has disappeared from his ad, but that he'd be willing to cancel the ad and just sell it outright to me. (Wonder what ebay would think of that?) My next step will be to write him and tell him that because he didn't respond I had to buy another nickel at a higher price!

I'm not reporting, as previously said that's pretty useless unless ebay gets pre-active.

I think this one may be the best one yet. Uncirculated in the title, but very worn in the description.....

As my final twist of the knife, I sent him the following email: "Hi again. I'm very sorry, but because you have not been responding I had to make a decision and I bought another nickel. It was not as nice as yours and it cost a little more, but I needed this one to complete my set so I could sell the set next weekend at a coin show."

Yesterday morning I posted 2 complaints to ebay about the last two auctions in this thread...the (alleged) 1917 and 1913 nickels. I said I felt the titles were deceptive. Used the scubu's link, and both auctions are alive and well.

This topic is very interesting in that I have been a member of the Numismatic Fraud and Forgery Prevention Watch Dog Group for ebay for years, Sometimes these sellers should be stoned and banished from ebay for life, however, Simply put, these people are supporting this company with the sheer amount of money in fee's from their sales.
I have put a stop to many people and before you know it like the previous person stated, they are back again, changed face and name and this is their life. Just do not give up and know that some day in the arena of life, you might just have a seat to witness the exacting paybacks due to so many......

One of the problems with coins fraud on ebay I see, is that there isn't any legal body that enforces coin authenticity.
It's a different matter entirely with items that have trademarks/copyrights. In cases of copied items like watches, lawyers will notify ebay and items are promptly removed and sellers are banished. A few years back, I made a list of some fake Swiss watches and faxed that to the company's legal counsel. The results were swift and all-encompassing.

You're right. ebay has a mechanism in place for this to happen. It's called the VERO program. However even this is abused, but not the way you think.

Imagine you go to Walmart and pay top dollar for licensed MLB fabric. You take it home and use the fabric to cover ceiling fan blades then sell the fans on ebay so kids can have a fan with their favorite MLB team on them. Cool idea, but ebay starts pulling your auctions and not refunding your fees just because MLB picked up the phone and said it's a copyright infringement. Wrong. ebay learned their lesson with this one and now they won't pull stuff unless they are sure it's a violation.

The seller in this thread had clear violations in the original listings. Obvious stolen photos, bad payment options, etc, so they were pulled quickly. The ones running now don't seem to have clear violations.

To the last two members - I once got into a verbal tussle with ebay when they de-listed some of my "restored" Buffalo nickels and they told me that they have some type of specialized group of folks who, besides selling coins on ebay, make up a type of committee which regularly meets and decides what is right and what is wrong with the listings you see on ebay. (I wish I had saved the email...) My guess is that a lot of them are sleazy "power sellers", sort of like the guy who currently has THIS ad running: http://cgi.ebay.com/Shotgun-Roll-Un...-S_W0QQitemZ330313448301QQihZ014QQcategoryZ3358QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

Exactly, period, end of story. $$$$$$. Pretty sad.
