I know what you mean.
It took me 6 years to finally find a Denver minted Acadia quarter and I live in the Denver mints backyard.
That is among the longest times for me to find a coin.
I do believe that my record long is 9 years.
That was for a 2009 Denver nickel.

Wow I've never seen Acadia D (rarest of all at 21.6 million) or P (24.8 million). Technically, the Chaco Culture is the rarest overall in the ATB series (22 million at P and 22 million at D).

It may have taken the fun out of the hunt but, I'm glad that I acquired the ATB Proof Silver sets from the mint through a subscription. These are mighty nice finds here! Happy Hunting!

Found in circulation 2009 P Puerto Rico (first ever US coin with Spanish words) and 2019 D Guam ATB. Both are the rarest of each P/D mintages. 53,200,000 and 114,400,000 respectively.

Funny, it must all have to do with distribution. I literally just found 3 Chaco's - 2 Ds and an S mint business strike all in the same roll as I was reading this. I live in the Denver mint distribution area, they are very common finds for me. I stopped pulling them out years ago (I did keep the S minted one though).
I'm curious now. I just started this box that I'm searching, so I will count the number of Chaco's that I find in one box and report back when I'm done.
