@morgans dad: Quote: Did you Research the Name on Your Medal? My understanding is that Alonso was awarded his medal based on the quality of the four drawings he submitted for a Triumphal Arch design.

This medals' case, design pattern, is rather interesting. At a quick first glance, it almost looks like condensation on a glass of ice water (without my readers). Upon close examination, it appears to be a European ivy, that bears fruit. I'm speculating this is intended to make a connection (outreach) of the originating Exploration Continent, to the newly discovered Continent. Might be a stretch, who knows what Designer/Engineers were thinking in the 1890's... Just throwing it out there...

@eaglebub7: Interesting perspective regarding the medal's aluminum case.
I have always viewed the case's design as simply a result of the then-current popularity of floral designs (very popular during the Victorian age). In other words, "decorative" vs. "symbolic." I guess there's always more to consider!

@ Eagle, Thanks for the Added Posted Information, I saw COMMEMS Posted Original Case for the Medal, It is a Very Intresting Design. I believe You have hit the Nail Hard on the Head, I too believe the Shown Flora is of the Ivy, European Type, Shown " bearing " fruit. I think Your 100% correct in Your anology, Here's where I am at, I do NOT have access to the Medal or any other piece, Let's go over what We know, We know the Mint Was involved in Making This medal. We know Augustus Saint-Gaudens was Involved in Making the Design for This medal also. We Know His Design for the Reverse for This medal was REJECTED. We Know Charles Barber, the U S Mint's Engraver Also designed a Reverse for This medal and it was Accepted to Be on This Medal. We know from Posted Information that There were Approx 20,000 Medals handed out, after Minting/Striking Them, ONLY given out to Show Exhibitor Vendors, ONLY!!! We know the Medal posted and seen has the Recipients name C.L. ALONSO. We know from posted information that C.L ALONSO was awarded This Medal because of the Four Quality Drawings He submitted for the Designs of the " Triumphal Arch Design."! It is These Four Drawings I am seeking help finding what they LOOK LIKE, I am also seeking Information about Seeing the Reverse design , of Augustus Saint-Gaudens REJECTED Design drawings. There are Many unanswered questions that Should be Researched. This Topic is not only a Very interesting one, it is a Very Educational one Too. Gaudens, Barber, Alonse, Very Respected, Very Well Known Bright minds of the Days. To see a Numismatic Historic Piece like the FOUR Drawings , Like the St-Gaudens Double Eagle Original Art Work Design Drawings or the Mold or Galvano that Came from One of These !!!! PS, If I am not getting the Proper Exposure Here, I will post the TOPIC of my own, I Will post ANY and All Updates, when and If ...... I appreciate Any and All Thoughts and Input, Thanks to All , In Advance, Mike MD.

The following link is not specific to the Arch, rather conceptual structures in general, relating to the fare. One of them is pretty far out there and kinda reminds me of the "Jetsons" for some odd reason. https://www.onverticality.com/blog

Let's not forget or overlook, the 1893 Expo basically introduced electricity to America, arguably the most integral component of our society today. Design of structures and grounds incorporated this, which surely propelled the acceptance of "AC", which powers your home, today. If you haven't seen the movie "The Current War", it's worth a look, for a couple hours. Light bulb intentional
