@luvmyCAM has great points. I find studying as much fun as collecting and the hobby much more satisfying once I understand the details of a series and focus on those. This is all personal preference and I can't pass judgement on what someone does in their coin buying. I'm sure there are many on the board who would think I've throwing good money away. I'm appreciative of the pointers I received at my local club and on CCF.

Keep reading, looking and enjoying yourself!

luvmyCAM has a lot of great points for someone starting out. the only thing I will add is even though a coin is slabbed does not mean that the grade presented is the grade. too many times we have seen even the top tier TPG's get it wrong and sometimes not even close so i'll add that while learning a specific series learn how to accurately grade that series as every one of them is different. Buffs are one of the hardest series to grade properly and the TPG's get these wrong quite a bit from what I have seen. probably not a good starter series

good luck and take some of the comments to heart. they are only attempting to help you through you green years to not make the same mistakes they did

I SERIOUSLY doubt anyone would pay a fraction of $88.73 for the coins shown.
My point was that the seller claimed these would be $100 worth if they weren't damaged. They didn't live up to that in my view, and of course it's based on the grades they assigned themselves.

Does the seller have a return policy option?

Of course the seller does not accept returns. He foisted these junkers off on someone and does not want them back.

@Hondo.... As w/ everyone else here, I dislike uncouth shysters & was hoping there was a minuscule chance the OP might be able to return the coins for a full refund.

Where do you get uncouth shysters? This was all on the OP. He got EXACTLY what he ordered. Everyone told the OP no and he still got it. Why should the seller allow returns? The seller clearly stated what he was selling.

Arm's length transaction as far as I'm concerned.

OP's original post (on a different thread) had a link to the ebay offering. Seller stated that all coins would be "details" = damaged goods and could not be returned.
What we've seen so far (a bent 1883 dime and corroded 1884 nickel) leaves OP about $33 in the hole. Maybe the 1858 Flying Eagle cent and the 1935-D whatever will make it all worthwhile but I don't think so.

@hfjacinto, If a seller is promoting $35 worth of merchandise, the buyer should receive the equivalent of $35 in goods. IMO, the OP got way less than what the seller was advertising.

@coin-rejector,

Sorry you are incorrect. The seller sold a bunch of cull coins. The OP was told not to buy it. He decided to buy it. As to value the seller said he wanted $35 for a bunch of reject coins, if the op agreed to that, that's on him. You can't stop someone from spending money on worthless crap. I see people buying overpriced coins on the cable shopping network, people gladly pay $100+ for a coin that has a worth of $35. In no way is the seller obligated to give the buyer a $100 coin or $35 in coins that the seller CLEARLY stated what he was selling. If you buying something that isn't worth it that's on you.

Actually the seller was promoting $100 worth of merchandise, *if* it wasn't damaged, for $35. Sort of like advertising my choice of a random vehicle for $3500 that has a blue book value of $10000, *if* there wasn't anything wrong with it. Year, make, model, mileage and what's wrong with it you get to find out after you pay.
