Actually some are quite innovative. Now if they could channel their talents toward more useful pursuits.

It's only a felony if there's intent to defraud, otherwise everyone who rubber-stamped a Where's George? logo on a note would be in big trouble...

I think he means defacing money is a felony, not defamation. Not sure how you defame money. Call it worthless? Of course the truth is a complete defense to a charge of defamation.

What I meant is never what I said unless it's something other then the possibility of the inaccurate truth.

So would every bank teller that stamps or writes information on the top note of a strap of bills.

The "intent to defraud" clause is for coins, not notes.

The key phrase here is"

Quote:
intent to render such bank bill...unfit to be reissued,

If they had no intent to render it unfit to be reissued, they are not in violation of the law.

In fact the secret service has investigated wheresgeorge.com and the only thing they determined was that the people who run the site were selling rubber stamps. Apparently it is illeagal to advertise on the money (I have no idea what law that is), so they stopped selling stamps.

Frankly, I whole-heartedly support drawing fun pictures on currency. Its not lewd or anything, so I don't have a problem with it.

Some counterfeiters attempt to alter $1 and $5 notes (by 'inkwashing') to make them appear as higher denominations. Yours truly caught such a phony $100 based on a newer $5 note. I would say that was 'alteration with intent to defraud'! (although existing anti-counterfeiting laws cover this, as far as notes are concerned)

GO admit it you have caught the artistic bug and just wanted to show off your work!

Honestly it doesn't bother me any more than pasting an Obama or Pope or whoever sticker or painting over the face of circulating coinage!
