I am too.. There is only one small nick on her face, a few small ones on the bird but nothing distracting nor luster dulling.

Not sure if this helps capture it any better. I'm still figuring out how to take different pictures to show varieties and that has been difficult enough besides trying to show details with an old phone camera. Also should I have this restored? Not sure about that whole part.

I lean toward AU-58, but at best MS-62.

I would save your money and not send this one in for grading. Every coin does not need to be in plastic.

If I had any doubt that it wasnt mint state I would not send it but looking at these photos tells a different story than having the coin in hand. Under scope it shows no wear on the high points only a few small swipes on the bottom of the bird where it rubbed up against something. The toning is thick and gives it an appearance of almost dirty in my photos

the last obv photo may be showing what the coin looks like in hand best. if you cant take the coin out of the holder or post a rev photo using the same setup as this one then i'll go mid AU - 53 or 55. the "D" is a little better date but its not worth slabbing or conserving. its a toss-up but due to the eye appeal. its probably borderline. you could try some 100% acetone to see if it helps any. if it was mine I would just put it in my collection in an airtight.
just an FYI. always take the coin out the holder when possible

The coin is out of the holder, I lifted the top off before taking the photos and then flipped the coin. For some reason my camera does not show detail well as well as horrible lighting. I have tried figuring out how to take good photos but just cant get it down packed. I will hold on posting until I can figure it out

maybe give this a try
1. if coin is in holder, remove coin from holder if possible (not needed here)
2. turn off flash
3. place coin on flat surface with indirect natural light. maybe a window sill in a cloudy day. Use a black or white background to avoid any reflective color
4. move phone about 3in from coin
5. zoom in using your fingers until the coin comes into focus and fills the cameras view finder. if your phone has a portrait selection use that and then press and hold on the coin in the view finder to AF lock it
6. hold phone steady. if you cant then place something on either side of the coin (like books) at that distance and lay phone between them. this will hold it steady and allow you to zoom and take the photo without any blurring

27-D is a better date. Quote: There is only one small nick on her face, Which one are you talking about...the one on her eyebrow, the one on her nose, the one on her cheek or the one on her chin? You haven't mentioned the open field chatter? These big girls were not handled gently while in bags. The obverse chatter is a distraction. The reverse has the hit along the Eagles (birds) tail, and some of the rays have small dings along with scuffing in the open fields. idk Sir...I don't want you to be disappointed if she dosen't get an MS grade? As far as conservation...throw her in some acetone and call her good and send her in if you're sill inclined. Pretty big difference between AU-50 (based on pics that's what I'm calling her) and MS-62. Please follow-up with us if you send her in...I really enjoy Peace dollars. smat

I was referencing distracting marks while in hand and yes I stated the bird as well. I'm ok with AU but I have to try this one. Ive seen too many 27 Ds at 62-63 and look like a 55 imo.

It graded AU-58 and with their picture I'm more convinced it is a 62 now than before. There are a lot of clash or file lines on both sides which can be misleading without magnification or a picture but actual marks/wear on the coin just don't lead me to believe it is the least bit circulated. The main pointers to my conclusion is the high point on the bottom of the neck showing undisturbed clash marks or thread like impressions and the undisturbed luster throughout.. but they are the pros. I was given a full set of uncirculated Peace dollars decades ago that I'm confident were put away during those years and this was one of them or I would've been on the fence about sending it in.

Here is a recently graded and sold 1927 D AU-58 for comparison that tells the story for me I believe.

AU-58...That really surprised me... But I guess the luster (under the toning) was there and the strike was good. I'll have to keep that in mind and not just focus on the ticks and dings... Thanks for the follow up! smat

It is an uncommonly nice strike even for a 27-D
