 This will add a few $ to the net proceeds of the estate lot I'm dispersing for a relative. Once a FMV is determined, I'll need to decide if I'm going to buy it from the estate or sell it. A lot of homework to do. . . |

This morning, I rounded up figures from various on-line price guides. A LCS owner told me ANACS was not considered a reputable authenticator "within the industry"; after examining the coin with his loupe, he offered $750, then explained if he wanted to sell it, he would have to have it reslabbed & graded by NGC, he would need to make a few dollars on it, etc. . He characterized it as a "nice coin."
Anyone willing to share the most recent Greysheet price guide listing for this grade ? Thank you.

For what it's worth, here's a pcgs slabbed environmental damaged F details that sold 10/8/2023 on ebay for over $1100.00: https://www.ebay.com/itm/186100854102(hope the link to the sold listing works, if not, I just went to ebay and searched "1909 s vdb" and found it rather quickly by scrolling down the results page a few times.) Edited to add: Don't know how valid it is, but the below link to "numista" claims to have prices from greysheet and lists 1909-s vdb F15 at $1,040.00 https://en.numista.com/catalogue/entry.php?id=5700(Hope I'm allowed to post these publicly available links... if not, please feel free to remove, and I appologize.) The offer (and slab prejudice) from the dealer is what I would have expected. They have to make a living, so they want to buy cheap. You will certainly get a lot more selling it to a private individual, perhaps the same as what the dealer could.

agreed, don't sell it to a 're-seller' (dealer) they will massively undercut you so they can make the profit you should be able to get. If you want to sell it, try ebay. But first check what others in similar condition sold for. Edited by Dearborn

ANACS is perfectly fine. Dealers that spew that junk are the problem. And they continue to perpetuate the idiocy of buying the plastic. Its rather disgusting IMO. Regardless, as stated, no matter what the dealer says or thinks, they DO need to make money so will never give you full market value. And don't get me started on the scheister sheet values. 750.00 is what its valued at on CoinWorld. Which is way low compared to actual market value. I paid 1150.00 for a VF25. Which was a good deal and over the listed value. If you were to sell it, I would personally expect to get somewhere in the 900 area. |

PCGS F-15 BN $991 15 bids Aug 2022 1909-S Lincoln Cent V.D.B. PCGS F-15 BN (CAC Green) $943 12 bids Jul 2021 The average is $1,053.17. Note that CAC doesn't appear to matter in this sample. If you're establishing FMV for purchasing the coin from the estate, it seems like you could deduct the cost of selling, but see how the other heirs feel about that. If you don't intend to sell it yourself, they might not agree with being charged for costs that you are not incurring. The dealer offered you about 75% which seems typical - he has to make a profit - but he didn't have to give you a bunch of lame excuses. |

I don't have any ebay selling experience and I'm not sure starting out with such a valuable item as a first listing is the smartest thing to do. @kbbpll: Thank you for those listings. I agree - as a first time seller I sure wouldn't pick ebay. There are a ton of scammer buyers on there. If not CCF, I would shop around with GC, Heritage, Stacks, or the like. |
