Today, I will wrap up this thread with the last few notes of my CDN collection. Near the end of the Upgraded Journey, when we all learned that the Bank of Canada was turning to polymer based notes, many of us decided that we'd "call it a day," and shut down our hobby activities. I was one of those collectors. I was quite disappointed in the designs, especially the one-tone colour schemes of the new polymer. So when the notes first appeared on the scene, in 2011, I ignored the $100. I only kept a few $20 (in 2012) & occasionally tuned into the CDN Paper Money Forum.

What got me back into it the game? I heard about this scarce BSW prefix on the $20.00 (That & the HBG $5 which ended up in a big ouch!). There also happened to be a scarce AMK $50 & EKZ $100 but I don't collect these denominations & knew my chances of finding one were next to nil. It was rumoured that 250,000 BSW were issued.

BC-71a/P-108a 2012 Frontiers TWENTY DOLLARS:
Walk2thewater's-Bank-Of-Canada-Personal-Collection:
The above note took me 6 years & going through hundreds of thousands worth of Twenties to find. It's not in the best condition but at least I own one.

BC-71b/P-108b 2012 Frontiers TWENTY DOLLARS Radar:

While looking for the BSW, I found this note with the above 2 digit radar with the Wilkins Poloz signature.

Walk2thewater's-Bank-Of-Canada-Personal-Collection:
And just after I found the BSW (thinking I may be able to score another one! Ha ha!) Instead, I scored this dandy LOW serial #!

I found other nice notes in that 6 year blitz to find the elusive BSW. So, in the end, it was all worth it.
Now, most of us are searching for the elusive Lane Macklem FZT signature change over note!

BC-72b/P-109b 2012 Frontiers FIFTY DOLLARS:
Walk2thewater's-Bank-Of-Canada-Personal-Collection:
This is a birth year note. I don't collect $50 (or birth year notes) but I put this aside for somebody who does.

BC-74/P-111 2015 TWENTY DOLLARS Commemorative:
Walk2thewater's-Bank-Of-Canada-Personal-Collection:
Walk2thewater's-Bank-Of-Canada-Personal-Collection:
This "Historic Reign" commemorative $20 note slipped out without much fanfare & as such was missed by a lot of collectors. I found it next to impossible to source any. I went to about 10 local branches of banks (some that I didn't even patronize) just asking around for these. Most staff had no idea what I was talking about. So... they were quite tough to get & tougher to get in UNC. The above note is the short FWW (last) short run prefix. This was also the year they stopped inserting replacement notes.

BC-75/P-112 2017 "150 Years" Commemorative TEN DOLLARS:

Walk2thewater's-Bank-Of-Canada-Personal-Collection:
After striking out on the 2015 $20.00 notes (& facing resistance to get nice ones) I was extra careful to approach double the number of branches for this TEN. We all knew this was coming so I established many contacts with many branches & took out many bricks. What I discovered was that there were many gaps. I would come up to what I thought would be a radar (or repeater) and the serial numbers would jump by 1000 or more! It was super annoying but made me even more determined to find a special #. The above are 2 examples.

BC-77/P-W113 2018 TEN DOLLARS:
Walk2thewater's-Bank-Of-Canada-Personal-Collection:
Walk2thewater's-Bank-Of-Canada-Personal-Collection:

The above note is the first (& likely the last) UNC radar I found. I write the "last" because I am finding it too much bother to withdraw large amounts of notes from bank branches these days. I am now waiting to see whether a new $5.00 will appear & of course I'm always open to the challenge of finding the next signature change-over!

That's it! Hope you enjoyed seeing/learning about the various additions to my collection. (I thought it was important to add some of the rejects, ups & downs along the way especially in the over graded notes I bought along the way).

Thanks to all those who followed!

While I love your notes! The older Canada notes are my favorite! Yes the polymer notes are technically superior the original BOC and DOC just have a much larger appeal!

But all in all beautiful notes and impressive collection

+1
Walk2thewater's-Bank-Of-Canada-Personal-Collection:

The Original Journey (like the $10 above) got me back into collecting. I just loved seeing the dates imprinted on the back of the note. The paper quality was inferior & soon we heard they were being photocopied. What more could go wrong? The short "missing prefixes" (BEL/BEP) made this series a delight to search for but yes, if you really dig older, classic designs, the 1935/37 & original Devil Face 54's hit all the right buttons too. Thanks for your observations @hfjacinto

Just a few observations & comments about some of the plastic notes I posted above.

A BCS VF35 BSW $20 sold for $525 + Buyer's premium + tax in Geoffery Bell's last auction:
https://auctions.gbellauctions.com/...ix_i56334402

That's 8X the $80 BV that Charlton has it at (in VF) in my 2025 Guide. Keep in mind this is the first time anyone has seen one of these put up for auction as far as I know (& Charlton is slow as molasses to adjust recent series BV's). And the note has great eye appeal for a VF 35.

I haven't made any additions to my collection since 2023 (other than what I've found in circulation & that has been precious little since I don't go to banks & "recycle" money anymore). Today I present, for the first time, my first Bank of Canada pick up in 2 years!

I bid on this 1935 English $10.00 last week & won! I just picked it up this morning. It fills in a gap since I sold the Large seal $20, my $10.00, $5.00 & $2.00 notes from my 1935 set (& posted early on in this thread). The only ungraded 35 notes I have from my original early set is a couple of ONEs. Now I have the French $1, English $2, French $5, the English Ten below & the small seal English $20.00 all original (Q) VF or better.

Now my 1935 set is complete (I don't collect $50 or above). It is very unlikely I will add a $25.00 to my set (unless I win the Lotto). Next, is a nice 1937 "Ozzy Osborne" $20 & then I'll tackle my Devil Face gaps.

-It may be another 3-4 years before I address the 1937 & other gaps (depending on what gets offered). It took me several years to return my attention to my Bank of Canada sets.

I was (pleasantly) surprised at the stagnant Charlton Book values for the 1935 TENS. First off, one sees all the other lower denominations listed far more often than this denomination ($1, $2 & $5). I have also seen hundreds listed & about 25% of them have a "Q" (or not processed) so that helped me pull the trigger on this VF example. The 1937 & 1954 gaps should be much easier to fill (hopefully) though I will be looking for UNC examples.
