Last 4 lots I sent in to GC I didn't get paid until 27-30 days after auction and twice had to call them.. Hey their good and have the goods but things have changed there when I'm selling. Buying at GC is top dog but honestly I just don't send my coins to GC anymore and I do alright. For me waiting for listing and a month for check turns into 10 weeks every time. I used to get some solid deal auction wins back in the days 2016 - 2020 not anymore.. GC has been so successful that I'm competing with too many who are willing to pay too much...thats the nature of the beast. I've been forced through necessity to hit coin shops, ebay, and shows where I can still get deals in happy zone between graysheet and retail. Sorry GC army cardholders but I've branched out.

I feel in all fairness to GC I should mention 80% of the coins I've consigned to GC were under $150. Any coin scarce, and with value over $500 I admit GC is the path for the top dollar i.m.o. Basically my only gripe is the wait for listing and then for the check...then when I get paid "oh their the best" LOL. The amount of bidders on GC has grown exponential since 2016 thats good for sellers but tough for small buyers like me. Oh the deals one used to get on varieties and niche semi-keys 5-6 years ago. The hobbie pulled a fast one on me!

I should've updated this on Friday afternoon when I actually received the check finally. Aggravating at the least. Ian did his best to explain this was an anomaly. Better communication would have made the whole thing much better. The Tuesday before Labor Day when I told a replacement check would go out right away I wasn't informed they were moving offices into a different location. When they sent it out a week later they should have emailed me the tracking #. Ah well, I'll try them again without hesitation. Just purchased a coin Sunday in their auction, now I get to experience that side of it. :)

Quote: Just purchased a coin Sunday in their auction, now I get to experience that side of it. :) I do a lot of buying on GC, and almost always the coins get shipped out on the Monday following the auction. I've never had any issues or delays with shipments of coins I won at auction on GC. I just shipped off my 10th consignment to GC today (I started selling there about a year-and-a-half ago). I've been fairly pleased with my selling experiences, but it does take a month or so after shipping for the coins/notes to be auctioned, and another month to receive payment. If they send coins to CAC for you, I've found that normally adds a couple more weeks, but that's out of their hands. They do have a cash-advance option on their consignment forms, but of course there's an interest cost for doing that. It can be handy, however, if you want a portion of the proceeds upfront. I've never used that so can't say what the cost is for doing it.

I have to say that the auction performance on Great Collections was simply *terrible*. I sent them 16 nice upper-mid-grade Morgans that would have easily yielded $2300 on HA or ebay. Barely reached $1700, with virtually no movement in the final minutes. Now I get to wait a month to get paid. I do not plan to repeat this experience.

What was striking was the minimal exposure and low auction participation. The listings barely attracted more than one or two views a day, with maybe 10-20 each on auction day. The low commissions are great, but with results like these it hardly matters.

Is it possible that GC excels for certain kinds of coins, and not for others?

If you have upper-grade, $$$$ coins and are looking for an international audience, go for HA or Stacks. Edit to add: an additional option would be to use minimum bids or a reserve. Or simply list your coins on ebay as BIN (with or without Make-An-Offer). Also note that ebay auctions can be very dangerous to sellers. Why? Because an auction can run for at most 10 days. If for some reason only a handful of people find your auction in the first place (among the loads of junk postings), you might end up having to accept a low-ball offer.

Well I'm trying GC too with about 60 of my coins. Had to get a little money. I hope everything works ok for me. Have a lot of 2021 Morgans and peace in there. Also a top pop coin with ANACS. I know a lot do not like anacs coins. Auction I am in ends March 24th. Wish me luck. I just hope bidding speeds up on the last day.lol
