Sequential notes may be "neat" but they seldom bring a premium, to be honest.

Sorry this took a while, but I'm just recovering from a bout of Covid. Only took about 3 years to get nailed! Feeling much bueno now!

Anyway, this group of 3 consecutive 1974 Fed $1 Stars have been residing in my stuff for about 40 years. My wife once asked me "do you SAVE everything?" Short answer is "yeah" especially when I think it's worth something!

Anybody out there wanna take a guess as to WHY I saved all three of them?

When the $2s were issued once again in 1976 for the bicentennial, getting them stamped and cancelled on the first day of issue was a thing

The set of 3 consecutive 1974 $1 J Stars came from an old friends accumulation up the road in Oklahoma before he passed away. He was an old banker and the stuff he came up with always amazed me and he could keep my head spinning! He was an encyclopedia of coin and currency knowledge and did not disappoint with his many finds!

The key for these 3 star notes can be found in the reverse plate numbers. Note #15 was printed by plate number 1878, note number 16 was printed by plate number 905 and note number 17 was printed by plate number 1901. Plate number 905 is the result of an engraving error and should have been engraved as plate number 1905 (instead of 905). According to the 10th edition of the Small Size Currency Guide by Schwartz and Lindquist the lowest back plate number observed on the 1974 series was #1472. #905 is a recognized engraving error and carries a premium. It's premium as a star note is even higher as star notes were used to replace printing errors!

Even though only the #16 note is the only error note in the group, having all three notes together highlights the engraving error. That's why I've kept them together all these years! 905 engraving errors still turn up on the currency auction sites and can bring a hefty premium—- especially the stars!

This is a group of 4 notes from a cut sheet of 1929 notes from a scarcer Dallas bank. You can see how the cuts were uneven and the top and bottom margins fit together perfectly in the note sequencing.

These are my oldest group of consecutive 1929 Nationals.

That's putting it mildly Sky.

Cool notes that should be kept together to tell the story.
