Quote: Already downgraded to a category 2. Can't get complacent even if it's downgraded to a tropical storm. While you generally will have minimal wind damage, heavy rains from a tropical storm, especially if it happens to stall, can be absolutely devastating both in property damage and in loss of life.

We had a Sheriff helo making announcements warning of the heavy rainfall and life threatening flooding in the San Gabriel river and adjacent creeks. The homeless tend to set up shelters down there. Some probably have no idea what's coming. There will be many swift water rescue events unfortunately. Luckily, our house is on higher ground away from any mudslides or flooding areas. Still preparing as if we are going to get flooded though. I have sandbags in key areas

vermontensium, I forgot to mention but you probably have done this. Fill the gas tank of every vehicle you own.

Stave safe! When sandy hit us in NJ, it had just downgraded from a tropical storm we ended up having thousands of trees down and no more power for a week. Take these storms seriously.

Tropical storms ..regular weather in winter for the Pacific NW USA and Lower Mainland BC . We old timers call them " Pineapple Express" The enlightened gang call them " Atmospheric Rivers " This will end with a whimper and not a bang ..as it usually does .

Like I said, I will keep you all posted. This is not the warm Atlantic or even the warmer Gulf of Mexico. But still could be a problem for us because nobody out here has even heard of a tropical storm except for someone like me that chases storms in the mid-west and has studied meteorology for years. Most people just think this is a little rain fall for this time of year. They will be sadly proven wrong in some instances.

It was a joke. A lot of rain yes, but no damage, high winds, etc. None of that like they said there would be. I don't trust the weather people out here. They always hit and miss. We had a 5.2 earthquake in the middle of it all which I was way more concerned about.

This ended with a whimper and not a bang ..as it usually does. The alarmism these days with social media and news ..amazing Seems everything gets so over blown these days.. Life was so much easier 50 years ago . We have worse winter rain storms than this " evil " so called monumental Hurricane 2 to 3 times a year on average .

I live in Phoenix AZ - we didn't get a lick of rain from this storm, but got hit the the very high humidity - that combined with 110 degrees it was just terrible. And I work outside in Construction field.

Pacificoin, come stay here on the Gulf Coast for a while. Hurricanes are a matter of life and death.
