1914 Barber Half NGC: For The Impoverished Collector

A mintage of only 124,000 I'd say it's a close to $100 coin. I too think it makes a G-4 grade as the rims are partially there. Could have detailed from the scratches though, Hard to guess the TPGs at this grade on older coins however.

Typical circulated Barber half - I bet the majority of the surviving population resembles this coin within a grade point or two.

They certainly do. Most surviving Barber's are in AG-G range. Choice F-AU Barber's are the hardest to come by, depending on the year/mint. This is a really clean example of a Good.

The tiny rim hits and faint scratches shouldn't preclude a straight grade. Pleasing example overall.

That's just flat-out wrong. G-04 by any standard. Perfect example of the stranglehold the TPGs have on us. To re-grade costs you another submission fee, which is not refunded even if you're right on the upgrade. What can you do?

Yep, under-graded by NGC. I have bought many NGC under-graded Barber half dollars over the past year. They tend to be really conservative I have noticed.

To be fair, I intentionally seek out coins that appear undergraded, which is why I end up posting a lot of them here.

It's a great date to have, I always look for 1913, 1914 & 1915 Philly Barber halves at shows for a good price, they are easy to resale and always seem to make me profit. Got to love low mintage coins that are collected by many in lower grades.

Close for sure, but this coin has fully half of the reverse rim showing, which in my mind pushes it up to G-04. Just my opinon.
