@ AngelaMichelle ... It is the small date.
Quote:
Copper-alloy cents weigh 3.1 grams and the copper-plated zinc cents weigh 2.5 grams give or take a few tenths of a gram either way. .... But for all practical purposes, it is best to weigh the 1982-D Small Date cents to see if you have one of the rare 3.1 gram copper-alloy specimens. ......Small Date 1982-D copper cent shows the "2" quite a bit further from the rim than the large date version

As John1 says "Double check your scale".

This IS a Denver minted Small date Lincoln Cent.
The important thing is to ensure that the weight is 3.11g and that your scale is 100% accurate.
I hope it is a Copper cent, but they are very rare -

Can you post up an image of the reverse please?

Exciting!

If you feel your scale might be inaccurate, please don't use the popsicle stick scale. That's just silly. You can probably get it weighed at a post office or pharmacy.

As far as I know there are only two known of the 1982-D small date bronze. Your mint mark is much higher than the other two examples. Good luck, but odds are that it's zinc or fake.

Original Poster,
I see you edited your post to say "Coins weighs 3.1g.
That would be an amazing and very rare find indeed.
I hope you follow up on that and I would have it sent to
be verified!
