@coin rejector - I see three splits too, but I also see only 3 splits on PCGS pics of the FS-105?

Also has the flared G on the reverse and the die marker by the lips as shown on Variety Vista. http://varietyvista.com/12%20Kenned...4DDDO005.htm

idk - I'm still learning too. Hoping for more experts to weigh in.

I think you need to match up the FG initial style, and also some markers. There are at least three 1964-D 50c Cherrypicker varieties with tripling.

The PCGS entries are a mess for 1964 half dollars. NGC VarietyPlus is a bit better.

That slanting triple on the S serifs seems like a lock for FS-105. Maybe the quadrupling is subtle, or requires an early die state, or doesn't appear on all devices. I don't have that CPG to know what it says exactly, just the VV and Wexler entries.

Here's the die markers from Wexler's WDDO-005 - CONECA: 5-O-II, Cherrypickers: FS-50-1964D-105 (013.6)

Well, that's definitely it. I would note that although the CPG, VV, and presumably PCGS call FS-105 a quadrupled die, the Wexler catalog describes it as tripling.

In the NGC VarietyPlus reference, I believe you can see quadrupling on the center serif of the W and the left serif of the U.

That is an impressive variety, congrats! What did it grade or have you sent it off yet? Not sure if you just got it in hand from a seller or the TPG.

I kave many time this question: Why Quad? !!

Easy "
1. Master hub the first doubled on Master Die
2. Master die the seond on the Working Hub
3. The Working Hub on the Working Die
4. The Working Die transfer to the coin ( finish product )

So we have 4 transfers with 3 splits. Not archimede theorema, just how the Mint work in time.

In conclusion: You see three splits from 4 steps. So QDO. The Wex has also the TDO which it is another game ball. Analyzing the product (finish) with the method of production, we can separate the minings of splits.

Different opinions but BRAND the Wex tripled is not this one.

@-makecents-

I have it in hand. Not sending it, it's at best MS64, probably 63. The shallow knicks/rubbing/scratches (? not sure what to call them) are obvious in the fields, both obv and rev, in identical places. Fairly distracting. MS63.
