Of course I would have.

I hope wherever it ends up, it is found by someone who will appreciate it.

I don't know if they actually state it anywhere on the machine at the time of insertion, but Coinstar's website specifically states:

Quote:
Coinstar cannot accept Eisenhower silver dollars, 1943 steel pennies, pure silver, commemorative or foreign coinage. They may not be recognized by our kiosk or returned to you.

And from this old thread:

Quote:
I found that all Eisenhower "Ike" dollars get dumped into Coinstar's internal trash bin. Not even rejected out the bottom tray. Took me several weeks before coming to that conclusion. Confirmed when I had some lady with a key open the machine.

Sorry jbuck, but if it's literally in the trash, then probably nobody gets it. I doubt Coinstar pays somebody to search through the trash for valuables. Unless the trash-emptier person happens to notice the coins in there as they are emptying it and rescues them, any Ikes in the trash probably go straight to landfill.

Coinstar loves Ikes so much they won't give them up.

Sounds like I need to get a job servicing their machines.

At one of my local CoinStar locations it appears that they dump the trash container in an adjacent trash bin. As I was checking the reject bin I happened to look in the trash, it was empty but for a handful of coins, turned out it contained a couple game tokens, a flattened penny from one of those machines, a couple Mexican small coins and a Canadian dime.

A couple months later I saw a guy changing the bags, with the door open and he took a small bin and dumped it in the trash without looking to see what was in it. I checked later and again found some game tokens, a silver dime and a transit token from California.

Guess you don't want to put Susan B. Anthony dollars in there either.

They should register the same as the current golden dollar. They are the same size, they weigh the same, and the manganese brass composition was formulated to match the SBA electromagnetic signature.

SBA's work just fine in CoinStar machines. I put them thru all the time.

I ask at the local supermarkets and banks for any "weird coins" and get these pretty often. I save any that I like and CoinStar the rest for Apple Gift cards. Never had an issue with them or the "Golden Dollars".

Why would anyone know if they don't use Coinstar? I didn't know until about 5 years ago when I brought a batch of Ikes to my bank. The teller told me to put them in their coin counting machine and bring the receipt to her. I was a little skeptical, but I dropped one in and it immediately jammed. Fortunately, they were able to open it on the spot, retrieve it, and count the rest manually.
