I can't see the strike weakness that some have noted. Ear looks fully formed and wheat/cotton features show up nicely. The eagle's breast feathers, talons and legs show decent detail. Wings look good all the way to the rims and wreaths have nice detail. I'd appreciate more info for my benefit as well.

Sometimes when you are throwing out lowball bids on auctions - gambling, or trying to get lucky - you don't have much to go by, so you just use your best judgment along with a healthy margin of error.

These are far from the worst pictures I've seen, although they are very dark -- I'll try to clean them up for OP later in Photoshop.

One thing I can see in the photos is the fields do have a lot of chatter, but the coin looks MS.

I'll say MS-62.

I'll tossout a MS64 based on the images provided. Minimal contact marks, good strike and eye appeal. Can't read the luster but at least 63 unless the images hide problems.

Sorry for the poor photos and the delay of new photos, I hope these are better. On my first post I added 2 photos where I dropped light in the middle of the coin to expose the fields, those photos got deleted. I feel those would help with the PL designation. I don't want to be disrespectful and add those back unless I'm told it is okay to do so.

The holder has a lot of scuff on the obverse side. Mostly from the front of the forehead through the back of the cap area, to the top of the coin.

I changed the setting quite a bit to hopefully brighten up the photo, lighting has been a real challenge with my new equipment.

PCI has the coin at MS63DMPL. I felt like the coin was 63PL, although I feel the reverse could make DMPL, the obverse is not quite as nice, but really close.

I could see 62-63PL. DMPL is going to depend on depth of fields - if it were in a modern PCGS or NGC DMPL holder, I'd put a little more faith in that designation.

Your latest angled photo shows a little more chatter on the cheek. It still appears to have PL fields, but I would probably drop to 63 based on these photos. Still a very nice '81-O.

It looks 62PL based on the fields but has an extremely clean cheek. It is very rare that all the chatter is in the fields and none appears in the cheek which is higher. If you think about what the odds are that a coin rolls around in a 1,000 coin bag and experiences hits only in the fields, it would be pretty low. In that sense it is pretty special. This dynamic is maybe more likely in a proof coin, but looking at the denticles, this coin does not look proof. Nice looking coin though.

I did not realize this was slabbed when I first posted but remain at 63. Any mark gets magnified by the mirrors on the fields resulting in
them looking larger when photographed. Mirrors look good but as others have said gold PCI slabs tend to be too generous.
