yes, the texture would be roller lines as John1 above mentioned..

There have been at least three other full-weight, off-center cents struck on striated planchets. Two were 1952-D (see photos). At least one belongs to Tropicalbats. I saw another in a Heritage auction but can't remember the date.

I'm using the term "striated" in a descriptive sense, not a diagnostic sense. I'm not sure what's responsible for them. They could be roller lines, but they're too irregular for me to be entirely comfortable with that diagnosis. At the same time, I can't imagine what else might be responsible.

Thanks all! Yes, I still have that 1952-D I posted some time ago with pretty much the same issue. It would have been pretty neat if this was a split planchet like I thought it would be, but still quite happy with the coin as it is interesting in a different way.
