This is an example of pre-strike, post-plating planchet damage. Completely different from a case of incomplete electroplating.

There's always some term or excuse for every thing it's quite comical. But it matches the 2019 almost identical so I'm holding it.

Seems to be common assumption between a lot of members that everyone is just looking to scalp on ebay for some reason. I've never listed a coin and never plan on it. Any thing I find gets put in a folding card case and put with all my other ones.

Nice find. I have the same issue on an extra v I picked up last year. In hand it looks like the second pic you posted. I wasn't sure what kind of error it was. Good to have clarification on what it is. I thought it may be a plating issue also but now we know there was a different cause. Your pics look better but here's the one I have

RW1010, the scraped design rim on your 2023 cent appears to be post-strike damage.

Mike, That's what I thought but I am no pro. Could you elaborate a bit on "This is an example of pre-strike, post-plating planchet damage. Completely different from a case of incomplete electroplating." Thank you. John1

With incomplete electroplating, the cent planchet emerges from the electroplating bath with an incomplete layer of copper plating. In the case of pre-strike, post-plating damage, the cent planchet starts out with a complete covering of copper plating. Some mishap later scrapes off part of the plating before the planchet enters the coining press.

Thanks mikediamond for the info. I don't want to hijack coinhusker26s thread with my bad photos. I'll start my own with better pics. It could be damage but I think better pics are needed to see the similarities

I appreciate the information. Does error ref have a listing for this type of error? I'm having trouble finding it.

Came here to say what mike stated. It's interesting. There are many shields seen with different forms of pre strike Planchet damage. Some bigger then others.
