Precise work required but can be removed. This is after treatment and 10-days on a windowsill. Evidence remains as NGC calls out in the article Brandmeister linked - inconsistent coloration. Will leave on sill for a few more weeks to see what may transpire.

Nice improvement on that coin.. not perfect yet but much, much better.

I have a Buffalo nickel that had a spot that was removed, and PCGS detailed it with the comment 'spot removed' (I bought it that way. So currently it has been removed from the holder and I'm letting it get a toning back like you are..

Big improvement, but still don't see it passing muster.

Totally agree Frog - just as long as the carbon spot is gone I'm happy

Winesteven thanks for the link to Eva-Dry. I use desiccants and change them twice a year.but will give Eva-Dry a try. I take all my encapsulated coins out of safes monthly and I call it Happy Hour and enjoy the time. Yea, I'm retired.

I know Coinfrog, I know but....

I stripped that horrible intentional toning job off of the 1864 (I bought it that way knowing full well) and just wrapped up a redo. Overall happy with the outcome, carbon spot minimized well.
