Quote: Could grease be a factor by the date? Rim at 3:30 seems to show the LAM running all the way thru but who knows.

Well it is for certain a defective planchet - could it be that when the material was rolled out that there was a 'divot' where the date should be?

Thanks all for the great comments and suggestions! With DOCC's suggestion of the date being Struck Through Grease, and Mike's concurrence, I think that is the answer to the missing date. I have a couple more where I am not entirely sure what is going on and will try to post them today or tonight.

Another nice one. Even tough Mike has confirmed the Struck Through Grease, it seems different than any Greaser I've seen before. Some of the edges of the area around the date seem too "crisp", sharp, and linear for grease. Any chance it might be struck through a partial die cap?

What an attractive, ugly coin! One of the coolest laminations I've seen. Bravo!
