A "spike head" is nothing more than a die crack with an " ebay name title"...IMHO. John1

Well, I'm in the camp that believes the original site attributing these have provided a definition.
I'm not sure it gets much clearer than that.

With all that aside, it appears at first glance there's a die chip on the left wheat stalk.

Just to be clear. I have little interest in spike heads although I think I have one or two in my collection/hoard.I place SH in the same category as the floating roof and missing FG cents. A die crack needs to be fairly prominent to peek my interests. That said, collect what you like, and I will collect what I like. John1

Now listed as SKH-1c-1951-03https://cuds-on-coins.com/lincoln-c...s-1950-1959/While I wouldn't say I necessarily collect Spike Heads, I do enjoy finding them. They have been documented and collected for the last 50+ years and so have an important history in the world of error collecting. I think it is also fun to see how these die cracks sometimes progress into larger pre-cuds, Cuds, or RRDC's and so I think it is worthwhile to submit these finds when possible.

Cuds on Coins would list this as an "Unusual Die Cracks on U.S. Cents"

nice die crack but the huge scratch on the reverse and the residue on the obverse ruin the value
