The reverse rim issue at 10:30 is a concern. Hairlines, if evident, might go as cleaned. Otherwise AU details, maybe AU+.

I'll grade it as AU. Those hairlines are concerning though.

Coin is genuine, unlikely they will call that a die crack. I would have to say details, because it appears to have heavy micro scratches, but gold can be hard to grade sometimes.

AU-50, and that is a die crack on the star. I share the concern about it being cleaned - there are a lot of hairlines.

Thanks to all for the input. I appreciate your time and observations.

I'm glad one of my ancestors took her out of circulation.

AU-53 not cleaned, nor requires conservation. Pretty!

TPG's are way more lenient on gold especially these smaller pieces when it comes to marks, hairlines etc.

technically i'd call it AU55 but might net it down a grade for value. I don't think the coin was cleaned and I do think it would grade straight

Wow. This is actually better than I expected. Now the question is whether to send it for TPG.

The coin will be given to my grandson in the very near future. He hasn't shown interest in collecting and my feeling is that he would sell it help with college expenses. That kind of makes me sad but it's the harsh reality of life.

It's in an Intercept Shield capsule now. Is that protection enough and would it bring a higher price if professionally graded?

Thanks so much for your expertise and advice.

You may want to sell it and give him the money for college. Much greater chance he gets ripped off than you.

Not worth the expense to getting it grade from TPG unless is in MS grade. IMO.
