I held up to six different accounts for CRH. For separate pickup and dumps, in which I used a credit Union with a free counting machine, and another that accepted $500 bags of loose coin over the counter. They even supplied the bags.

The number one rule of Coin Roll Hunting Etiquette.............never take coins back to the banks you get them from.
Also, banks that give you coins without an account.....................bring them a dozen donuts every now and then. They will remember you!!

Many banks will not give you coins if you don't have an account. Go back to those banks in 6 months. Managers and tellers are constantly turning-over. You might very well get lucky the second, especially with halves and dollars. Most banks I hit, want to get rid of halves and dollars. Just remember, don't bring them back to those banks.
Also, if you establish a relationship or rapport with any tellers; give them your name and number and ask them to call you when coins come in they want to get rid of. You might be surprised at the phone calls you will get.
Whenever you hit banks, always go with cash in your pocket.

Tellers at all my bank branches are absolutely wonderful to me!! I always rewrap my coins, and, return full boxes (OK, sometimes I'm a roll short ) They appreciate getting rolled coins back. In return, they know that I like to get sealed boxes, so they almost always oblige. If it's not a sealed box, I take it anyway. I can just go exchange it at another branch. I also NEVER fuss about anything to them! Sometimes, the person who can get into the vault is on lunch. I don't complain. I just say "No problem, I'll get some next time" Oh, and I learned last time at the bank - ask if anyone brought in anything unusual. Fellow at next teller was getting dollar coins to give to his grandkids. My teller asked him if he wanted the 9 "Large Dollars" someone had brought in earlier. Of course he said YES. I commented that I'd've jumped on that, too (I didn't even know what she meant by large dollars). He was gracious and let me have four of them. I got two 1974 and two 1978-D Ike dollars

Question for the group, do you mark your rolls when you return them to the bank? I Have at least one other person in town that marks their coin rolls, luckly they must be looing for something different than I am. For those rolls that have their "mark" on them I never find any wheaties or 2009's. But lots of copper and to date several 2025s and so far 2 small date 1982 coppers. I did find a 1999 wide but someone ran it through the garbage disposal or a blender, either way I think the penny won.

When you go to the bank for your rolls, do they give you machine wrapped rolls or customer wrapped rolls? What denomination rolls are you getting? What coins are you looking for?

Staying with Pennies and Nickels right now, I take what ever they have. All the banks in town use Loomis. I have had equal luck with both Loomis rolls and customer rolls. I did score 20$ in Nickels last month, all Loomis and all 2026. Saving for a while to see what turns up on the errors list. I pick up coins at two different branches and return to the 3rd.

I usually order boxes, but I always offer to take any extra coinage they want to get rid of. I have recently found that three of the bank/credit unions I purchase from have 3 different suppliers. One uses Brinks, another Loomis, and a third uses Garda. The credit unions order coins less frequently than the banks, but I have good relationships with all of them and they keep me busy with boxes and customer rolls. I do not mark my returns as my dump bank is a credit union with a free coin counter machine for members. I can punch in my account number and make a direct deposit with a receipt from the machine. The only time I have to get in the teller line is when I fill up one of the machine's bags (always annoys the tellers). We recently moved a CD to that credit union and I made sure to tell them their machine was one of the reasons. Here's a funny story. One of the banks I buy from had ordered a couple of boxes of quarters for me and said they would be in on Wednesday. On that Wednesday I had been to my dump bank and noticed the Brinks truck at the bank I was expecting to get quarters from. I pulled in and went inside and they said she had not brought the coins in yet. I pulled up a chair and waited. Waited and waited. Finally the security guard came in and said, "No coinage today, she can't get the vault door open." Now that's secure! I came back the next Wednesday and got my 2 boxes of quarters, plus $700 in customer wrapped rolls that had just been dropped off. Timing is everything! Last week I made one of my usual trips to the dump bank to deposit coins and stopped by my main credit union to deposit some checks. They said they had a couple of boxes of halves and dollars someone else had ordered but had not picked up. Did I want them? Well, of course. They will get more cookies next week. :)

The half dollar box I have been searching had some coins that were marked by a previous searcher. The 1972 D's had the FG on the reverse marked with a black marker, I guess to show that he'd checked them. The 1974 D's had a similar mark across TRUST. I found that an interesting idea, but I won't be marking any coins myself.

Well we have something in common, several months ago I did get 100$ in half's. Found nothing, when I took them to my primary bank she took me to the coin counting room. A customer had just delivered $4,500 in lose halfs. She said he brings between 4,000 and 5,000 every other week. I noticed a lot had a black mark across the trust. She said he got most of those in Arkansas and Texas. Small world.

Okay, thanks for that. The reason I was asking... I wouldn't worry about seeing/finding marker rolls. What you are looking for and what they are looking for, are most likely two different things. I've searched customer wrapped rolls of halves that were marked. I'm assuming they were looking for silver. I've found DDO's in some of those rolls and even 40%'ers. Sometimes 40%'ers look like clad. People don't always know or understand what they are looking for. Believe it of not, there are young bank tellers out there that don't know the difference between clad and silver!

You're singing my song brother! You in Maryland be any chance? I dump my coins at a credit union also. I'm searching boxes of dollar coins at the moment. This is a test. Question: Do you know what I'm looking for? I also mark them... Why?
