That "D" is so suspicious. That alone would keep me from even considering this coin.

Just the way it is so much brighter than the other reverse metal, and those weird rippling bends, makes it look like the metal was worked with a tool. All the examples of a 1916-D have the mint mark hammered in the cocked orientation. Additionally, the mint mark is almost as wide as it is tall, and gets fatter with circulation flattening. https://www.pcgs.com/cert/47926763I don't even think that's wide enough to be an S from that era. And even those were oriented near 45 degrees.
