No idea but I suspect the holder contains PVC.

Do I win the Morgan in exchange for identifying what that is a promo for?

As soon as I saw the image, I recognized the logo from growing up in Tucson, Az, a local bank.

Eligius, how did you end up with this, I see you are in the Netherlands?

Forgive me, but I don't see the years 1877 or 1977.

Next to the logo, the top bit is 1877, two dots representing the two circles within the "8" and the bottom bit is 1977. One dot representing the circle in the "9" It is hard to see, blow it up and it becomes more apparent.

As someone who enjoys collecting this sort of thing, this is a really neat coin. I'm not surprised that the CCF Sleuths have already solved the mystery.

Thanks for the attribution!

The holder is indeed PVC but the coin is in a hard plastic capsule which seems to be airtight so no damage to the coin due to PVC fumes is to be expected. Indeed even after nearly 50 years the surfaces of the Morgan dollar are still white and shining.

I bought the coin in an auction here in the Netherlands. It was part of a lot together with some other silver US coins.

In the spirit of 1877, I'll give you a dollar for it.
