If the Seller thought for one second it was genuine then why hasn't it been TPG'd to remove any doubts?

Also a red flag: the seller has multiple other coins struck on the wrong planchets. They also sell novelty quarters and other self-made coins. https://www.ebay.com/str/eadventureiiAlthough, 113000 sales with 69000 positive feedbacks seems like a lot for an account that appears to be selling fake mint error coins.

Looking at the last photo on ebay and clicking it to magnify it looks like some copper color is visible especially in the ridges.

In my opinion, its fake. I would expect less detail near the rim and lighting for the edge pics is deceptive - not really showing it clearly. Nothing about this quarter screams legit to me.

I saw this on ebay the other day and thought it was authentic. I still don't really see anything obviously wrong? The metal flow on LIBERTY and QUARTER DOLLAR is as expected and not something that could be replicated by casting or alteration.

Quote: it looks like some copper color is visible especially in the ridges. That could just be from the lighting in the picture.

While PCGS did show a 1976 D quarter struck on a nickel planchet sold in auction, there were no pictures. The best comparison I could find is this. https://www.numismaticclassics.com/...r-ngc-au-58-By the way, the seller also has a 1943 S nickel struck on a steel cent planchet and there is a PCGS listed one with pictures as well to compare to.

It looks possibly real, but I can also imagine how it could be faked. I personally would not buy it. Would need a professional evaluation/grading to prove it.

Spending that kind of money on ebay for a raw, questionable coin makes no sense at all. Evidently others thought so too as it did not sell this go around.
