So, the best thing to come from this horrible situation is exactly what this thread accomplished, thought.

Agreed....alot of good discussion in this thread.

After thinking about this more, I get sick of the perp's families acting like they are the unfortunate victims in these situations. What disgusts me even more is that our courts allow them to file civil suits against the shooter who was merely protecting himself and his property.

I wish every state had a castle doctrine. My state, Wisconsin, seems to have a "duty to retreat" line of thinking but I believe there are some bills in the works to make it more acceptable to defend your life and property without the fear of legal action for doing so.

Texas as the right idea. They let that guy shot those guys as they were running. I bet people think twice about breaking into homes in Texas.

Punishment isn't just about justice...it is a warning to others. Not only was the shop owner protected, but many future people were protected. Part of our high crime rates is due to a lack of punishment of those that do the crime.

I am not really in favor of some of the harsher punishments of the world, but I bet people think a little more before doing stuff there.

I say everyone, but the shop owner and the bad guy is better off. We are all safer, and don't have to pay for his prison sentence. The hero has to live with taking a life though. Granted, it wasn't worth much (The bad guy did gamble it for a few coins), but I wouldn't want to live with it.

I think he was referring to the case where a Mr. Horn shot and killed two perps who had broken into his neighbors house, and presumably ran across his lawn during the escape. He was not charged or found not guilty due to the castle doctrine.

no remorse here. a steel worker earns his living knowing the risk. So does a criminal. one is noble one is not. its not like this is tragic. what would be tragic is if an entrepreneur trying to make an honest living had been hurt or killed by this thief.

More of the same happened last week, but this pharmacist went back to the prone suspect and pumped five more bullets into him. He is being charged with 1st degree murder.

this is such a shame. I have sympathy for the family of the CHILD thief. in this situation I believe charges could be appropriate. surely not murder one.

sheesh, it is not a doing of a human being... its ok to open fire to the suspects so they can flee but when you hit him down and shoot him several times, the table turns.

The video was on the web from the cctv and the pharmicist event.2 kids walk in , one shooting , pharmicist shoots back hitting one kid in the head , the 2nd kid turns and runs with the pharmicist chasing him out the door.
He is safe at this point , out of danger.
Then he goes back in the store , turns his back on the unconcious kid showing he is in no danger , gets another gun and walks over to the kid unconcious on the floor , emptys the gun into him , then goes calls 911

Thats why its murder 1

I have no sympathy for the kid but I don't agree with what the pharmacist did either. If the bum was down and definitely not moving there is no reason to waste more bullets on him. Grab the other gun? Yes, because, the other bum could have come back. Waste bullets on the other bum who is down? Maybe, if he woke up and tried to attack in any way, shape or form. Keep him covered until the cops show up. I hate theives! They are lazy worthless bums. Break into my home while I am here and you won't make it out alive. Nuff said.

I totally agree Irishraider , and I operate the same way.Its a pity the pharmicist took it too far.Whos to say why.Had he just stayed out of the store when he exited chasing the other kid (14yrs old) and called 911 at that point he was 100% in the clear.

Simple rules for self defense with a fire arm.

1. Practice, hit what you are aiming at.

2. Double tap center mass.

3. Own a gun big enough to do the job the first time.
