Just because PCGS says it's a "dropped star" doesn't make it so. The incuse star is indistinguishable from a contact mark derived from a star on the reverse face of a half dollar. The fact that it appears on the high point of the design is one indicator. Another indicator is that the star ends abruptly at the jowl line and fails to follow the topography of the design. Finally, the vast majority of dropped fillings appear on the same face they are derived from. This wouldn't be the first contact mark misdiagnosed as a dropped filling by the grading services.
