Nice looking coin but MS-69? I think not. I see at least 4 blems on the reverse alone. Sorry but $51k seems crazy to me. I would have preferred some gold coins instead. Even as a rare top pop, the problem that I see with high dollar rare coins is liquidity. Something like this is meant for investment rather than just collecting and when it comes time to liquidate how many buyers are there that are interested enough to make your investment worthwhile? From a liquidity standpoint even gold bullion would have been a better choice in my humble opinion.

No way this is a 69. Guaranteed this was sent to Cac and didn't green bean.

This is where TPG's hit the mother lode as far as marketing goes with their registry set competition. All you need are a couple of bidders who buy the number on the slab. For $51,600 you could buy 8 PCGS 68 1881-s CAC dollars with money left over. You can bet this coin made it to CAC and did not sticker. I wonder what it would grade if broken out and submitted to CACG? |

I think at MS-69 it's not quite as subjective. I'd imagine NGC had half their grading team going over this one at high magnification because you don't want to make a mistake on a coin of this magnitude.
EDIT: Just looked over it on the Heritage site at full zoom and there's a good sized gouge on the Eagle's breast. Did they miss that?

Why so much ? Its a nice coin no doubt but its not like its a low mintage.
12,760,000 minted. What am I missing ? Its graded awfully high I know but thats a ton of cash for it.

Grading is an opinion, looks less than 69 to me.
