This is one of the best I've seen of this type. I'm going to say MS-63.

Malissa, a great cent.
1st guess would be MS62, perhaps 63/4.
If it is RB, I would take a chance and send it to ICCS.
I am sure you have your own feelins about it.
and YES the do use a scope for grading.... most the time.
to compare, here is a cent I have. It graded MS63 RB ICCS
there seem to be a somewhat different grading criteria compared with silver.

thank you for the grades everyone. I may take it over to ICCS and drop it off to see what they think of it.

close ups and having many myself , I would grade this at MS 62-Ah the classic Victorian large cent... One of my favorites... Judging by the execellent quality of the 63 RB

well, I have repeatedly tried to get someone from ICCS on the phone so that I can drop this coin off. I just dont want to send it in the mail. So far have gotten no answer. Will keep trying and if not maybe I will ship off to someone else.

I cannot tell if the marks I see are due to "bag marks" or wear from circulation.
I'm leaning towards very slight circ wear--AU55.

I've heard it's near impossible to do...they don't even have a Web site/email. Good luck!

Im going to see if the new camera can take some clearer shots that show the color properly. I think the little marks in her hair area are bag marks not wear marks. I think so anyway. I have left another message with ICCS and hopefully that will get someone back to me.

Whatever it grades, a beautiful coin!
I'm pretty unsure to grade this by pics. I also could not tell about Victoria's brow, and whether that's strike or wear.

Once you get to 60 there should be no wear, and from then on up you are just counting bag marks, usually those in the fields. From then on, some TPG's take in luster and strength of the original strike; others don't. The highest points of the relief on the Obverse are the eyebrow, the loop of hair over the ear, the upper & lower parts of the bun, and 2 places on the crown/tiara that are too hard to describe. It's hard to tell from any photo; you need the coin in hand, but I think that I see just the faintest hint of circulation or maybe drawer wear on the Obverse. I'd go AU-58 without it in hand, but it may be UNC and so then no more than 62 due to the marks.

I need a clearer picture of the obverse to give a grade (not that I'm any expert either but I do my best).
