Some very beautiful coins there Willieboyd2. As a world coin collector, I do have a few coins from Mauritius. I suppose I should throw my 2 cents worth in.

Thanks for posting these, willieboyd2! I went on a vacation to Mauritius a few years ago, and by then the only one of the coins you've shown that was still in circulation was the half rupee. The 1 and 2 cents had gone, the 5c reduced in size and the 10c and quarter-rupee had been retired in favour of a revived 20 cents. The 1 Rupee has also been reduced in size and there were 5 Rupee coins. The half-rupee may have the last Kruger Grey reverse design in regular use today:

This one doesn't have a deer or a dodo, but it does have a nice tropical scene. Mauritius 5 Rupees 1992

Nice type collection! The dodo coin is iconic for world coin collectors who (like me) grew up in the 60s (I sold mine a while ago).
A little bit of "funny how that worked out" trivia: - Mauritius is named after Maurice of Nassau, the Dutch prince - Prince Maurice was named after the Christian saint Mauritius, who was (according to tradition) commander of a Roman legion that fought in the Alps. - the origin of Saint Mauritius' name is from the same root as "Moor," meaning he was a dark-skinned person from (drum roll ... )
Africa!
