I hope you're able to collect and get more-or-less whole. Big alarm bells for me since one of the European auction houses I buy from also uses DHL. Have you already notified DHL? Quote: You didn't pay a tariff , you paid the shipping companies fees I've never seen those fees assessed at delivery. Always part of the original invoice. Could this delivery guy have been doubly dishonest? Based on the prices, that also sounds too low for the tariff (which should be over $200 if assessed at 15% because above the de minimis threshold).

I sent the photos of the envelope and explanation right away to DHL. You can't directly write to them, you start a case for reimbursement, so I wrote my e-mail and sent it to the e-mail addresses they have for investor relations (which they do reply to for investors) and some e-mails I found for board members in Austria by searching their names. It must have worked as I received a very nice reply from someone with the title (executive response) who said she would take care of this personally. I was just frustrated when I did that as it was really not only about getting documentation about me being paid back, it was perhaps something they might want to talk to their staff about on how to handle finding a ripped open envelope.

Well done! I guess we should never underestimate the power of contacting the C-Suite directly because their general lack of technical knowledge makes them overestimate our ability to cause them reputational harm.

OK, you may not believe this, but I just got this e-mail from NN in Austria: Wonderful news and you have to wonder how that all actually happened.

I had the same thing happen on a FedEx shipment from France. Same shoddy packaging, tossed on my porch ripped open and emptied. The seller refunded the purchase price.

Quote: Found them in an employee's locker? Most likely, considering the coins were "found" so quickly! A good outcome.

Ok, on my front step. No message about delivery, loose in the box. I will try to see if these are all here. Check against the invoice. See if all 472 are there. Oh boy. It is progress.

What a mess this has been, louisvillekyshop. I hope that they're all there. At the least you have what looks like some very fine coins in there. I'll take a silver one when you put them up for sale.

OK, what is written on the bags, some were missing a few coins. But there were the more in the box lose that made up the total count. But these were gone through by someone for all I know because closed bags with coins not there but extra in the loose pile from the ripped bags, to give the correct total means these were went though. But I got them.

Pacificcoin:
Just to let you know, DHL wrote to me and accepted my request for the duty they charged to be refunded ($96). I asked because I quoted the HS code you posted on this string and thanks! Now, will they charge me for the next lot? I have to wonder if I have to ask for this refund every time. But thanks again!

@louisville. You are most welcome . These are trying times for all of us in the coin market. Hopefully there will be a proper result to the nuttiness in the end!
