Dearborn, did you get a chance to look at your OGP silver proof sets? Just wondering.

2004, 2005 and 2006 were from the examples I posted.

Interesting... I'm not really a proof guy...but this one collection I bought about 5yrs ago was an all or nothing and contained "a lot" of proofs both clad and silver.
I don't know how they were stored before I got them? The Ag's that you mentioned. I don't have any 2004's I have 2 2005's and both have the similar tarnish/toning you displayed. I have 3 2006's and they are unscathed.
Sorry about no pics. smat

smat, thanks for sharing the info. I don't know if we'd ever have a definitive answer but it does seem to only be in the sliver proofs. Who knows if it's from the mint, the album, or storage....or all three. Dearborn, no rush...sorry I forgot it was Thanksgiving, I don't want to take you away from your family.

Thanks Dearborn. So the OGP are fine but some in your album are toning. Seems like its kinda hit or miss, not sure what to conclude.

Thanks for posting the pics. That does have me concerned with putting proof silver in the albums. Almost appears they could be reacting to the acetate sleeves since the browning is toward the center and not from the edges. It does follow that pattern I've seen of other silver proofs. Not sure how I could organize the coins in the album if I were to omit the silver proofs.
Has your 1934-64 BU Washingtons toned any since putting them in the album. Clad and Clad proof seem to be unaffected.

Nope, and only the ones I posted above are affected. and notice how it is only in the center on the coins not the edge, so I don't think it is from the albums themselves. as I said, they are near the edge, so maybe it is atmospheric affecting them, and maybe the handling of them. (I use cotton gloves, but did one of them get soiled and I didn't notice?

I've seen this toning only on modern silver proof quarters and they were stored in different methods. PCGS and NGC 5 coin holders, single slabs, OGP proof sets, dansco and Whitman albums.

This strange toning on silver proofs assisted me in snagging this deal as the 2005 Proof half has it.....and seller didnt identify it as being silver. Also a 1964 in lot
