As a collector of gold commemoratives I feel compelled to purchase these "commemorative coins." I live in fear of ignoring an issue, watch it sellout, and subsequently have the price go through the roof. The timing is tough as well, for me anyway with all the various gold offerings from the mint due to the semiquincentennial. Another 3 coins is burdensome. Perhaps they could have waited until 2027 to issue the next 3. I'm a slave to my collection.
I do think the subject matter is unworthy of this type of honor. This despite the fact that as a kid I loved comic books, particularly Superman and Batman. It aided me in learning to read well. I can, to this day spell Mr. Mxyzptlk.

I'm disappointed in the Mint's foray into pop culture numismatics.

yep, me too. I stay far away from such trivial 'numismatics' trinkets

That is fair.

After seeing fellow members comment,

I'd like to:

The direction the U S Mint is taking Obviously does not align with old school historic Commemorative values of Many Here, Myself included.

While the The New era of coin collecting as it is marketed is a draw IMO or recruitment plea for topics like Comics of days gone bye, Along with the buyers of the same in hopes they will hit a Home Run and draw in newer clients to purchase Newer coins..

Comics are Awesome and as a kid I too was taken with the story lines and characters, Who was Not !!

Just not my cup of tea on a coin, Enjoy what you choose, no matter what, They are still Silver and Gold, ....

Has anyone else wondered if the folks at DC Comics/Warner Bros.. didn't perhaps slip a few dollars the mint's way (or some influential politicians) to create these coins? Was it coincidental that marketing of the coins coincided with the release of last summer's Superman movie. Excuse me for pointing out the obvious.

When I was about 8 years old I got a Superman costume for Halloween use. I remember the box had a disclaimer that pointed out to the wearer that it would not enable them to fly. Being the lifelong doubting Thomas I am I remember thinking, "Duh."
I loved that suit. Was disappointed that I was only able to wear it once, and my little brother inherited it.

Soooo, it's now March 9th, 4 months since I placed my order for the Wonder Woman coin. Two days ago I go to a sort of nearby coin show, and, lo and behold, one of the vendors has on display the Superman, Batman, AND WONDER WOMAN gold coins!!! What the heck? I ask him when did the coin ship? "$4,200" No, I reply when did you get it in? He says, "About a month ago." Grrrrr. I resolve to call the mint on Monday (today). While driving back home the "lightbulb" comes on and I remember that toward the end of January I lost my wallet and had to have the bank issue a new debit card. This being right about the coins were being shipped I'm guess as it took a little over a week to get the new card. Price of Wonder Woman was $3,200 back when bought it in November. It's now close to $4,100. I figured that when I called the mint it was going to be a "Sorry Charlie" situation, and if that was so I was going to be done with the Comic Art series. I called the mint and explained the situation and was told "no problem." They honored my original order and told me I would get a confirmation soon and the coin should arrive in about a week! Great! I'll be out of town from this coming Saturday until the following Thursday which will no doubt be the time frame in which they try to deliver the coin. I need the Supergirl coin now, or Krypto, or Bizarro Superman, or whatever comes next.

Almost 10 days now since I called the Mint about my November gold Wonder Woman order. Nice lady effectively told me not to worry that my original order would be honored and it would be on its way. Order still shows as "processing." I'm worried.

Two weeks since I called customer service about my Wonder Woman order and I now see in my online banking that they have withdrawn the money from my bank account and it's marked as shipped. I'm guessing I'm going to receive it now. Fingers crossed.

Got it! Now it's off to the safe deposit box where i'll be lucky to see it for a fleeting moment a few times a year, Wish I could keep my coin collection at home, but prices being what they are I can't chance it.

Congrats on getting it. There are different opinions where to store coins/bullion. Some want it all at home, don't like/trust bank safety boxes where if the bank fails it might take a while to be able to get into the box or perhaps government seizure of box contents if SHTF. I think bank deposit boxes are safe. Stuff in bank box is protected from home burglars, fires etc. On the other hand I keep some at bank box, some at home in a fire resistant safe with security cameras around the perimeter of my house and a camera in the room where the safe is. When away from home the cams can notifiy me on my phone if someone breaks into the house so I can call the police (as long as I have cell service where I'm at). When storing at home it's wise NOT to tell people you have valuables, loose lips sinks ships. Hope I never need to use one but I have some tools at home just in case, Smth and Wesson, Sig Sauer, Glock.
