If that scrape above the eye is really on the coin, I don't think there's any way it could get a 67.

I agree with you, I am just surprised it didnt get a straight grade.

No - deep scratches hold the grade back - you're nowhere near a 67 - I don't understand why people will spend more money for the same results?

Or how about this is only my 2nd time submitting coins so this is a learning experience for me. Thats why I am on here to get opinions and thoughts so I can learn myself to not make the same mistake. I am here to learn, as well as show and tell and make future informed decisions. Thank you all for the input.

Look carefully at your coins - to achieve a 67 grade with an older coin will take a pristine field and flawless details. |

I understand all that. Truly I do. I wasn't saying I believe it is a 67 coin, just hopes or even a actual grade. Although, looking at it, do you honestly believe those marks deserve and Unc details designation? And we need not be so attackish with our verbiage in this forum. I wasn't looking for the same result as you said, just another look because those scratches are not deep, nor are they many.

https://www.ngccoin.com/certlookup/.../NGCDetails/Yes, I think it's a fair grade. There appears to be a large scrape under the eye as well. Plus smaller scrapes on the neck and a small one on the ribbon. I think perhaps an angled view of the obverse would emphasize the scratches. When testing out coin grading, it seems preferable to use ANACS. They grade fairly strictly, and the cost is considerably lower than NGC and PCGS. As others have noted, there is not an upside for a regrading of this coin. You would spend more money to possibly transform it into a mid-grade MS coin, which will still not be worth more than the service fee. The right approach is to extract the learning from this setback and move on to the next coin.

I agree that Unc details is a bit harsh for a pretty coin like that, but unfortunately results like that sometimes happen when you send coins for grading. At this point, getting it re-looked at would be throwing good money after bad, because the only way it would be worth it would be if it had a chance at a 67.

a couple points on this coin.
1. they will not straight grade a coin, especially a modern with a scratch that is in a key area of the coin
2. do not resub this coin. it will not come back straight.
3. I suggest before submitting coins you post it on this forum for input to validate what you are thinking. we will give you an honest answer. you have some very knowledgeable folks here who have been grading coins for decades

Thank you all, I am not saying you guys arent knowledgeable, I know you are. I have only been at this for a little over 5 years and have learned a lot. I just believe some of us can be a little bit more gentle with the way we word things to others, especially to the people on here who have honest questions, even if they may seem trivial to the experienced. We don't want people to be deterred from this fun hobby.

I'm agree with above. Save your money. You can always run by us first before submitting to a TPG. Errers and Varietys.

rbaker20. I saw your last comment regarding the verbiage in the posts. you do not need to respond to this on the thread but I reread all of them and really didnt find anything that would be considered off-putting or condescending. if it was my post, I apologize as it was not my intention to demean you or your post. I always try to address questions as honest and non-judgmental as I can being aware that new folks here need a little TLC as they are learning just like everyone else.

NGC probably saw the scrape as post mint damage. Even if it straight graded, I doubt it would be above MS-64.
