Very nice purchases!

1795 appears to be Head of 1795
1831 is maybe Large Letters
1837 is maybe plain cord, medium letters
1840 is maybe Large date

Thanks Mrhakfbacon! It was a single lot of coins. I have to compare the other 4 to ones I already have. Hopefully they will be a different Newcomb.

I think it has a lettered edge but there is nothing I see that is conclusive. Thoughts?

I am not an expert on how worn large cents affects their Edge lettering, but since the lettering should be incuse I think it would show up more. I am unsure on whether it is plain or lettered, I'll try to check the die pairs.

I'm leaning towards S-77 which is a plain edge

I was kind of thinking S-76 or S-77 and that's why I hunted for edge lettering. I'm very happy with this purchase and it was cheap, a bit over $10 a coin.

The 1831 and 1852 appear to match ones I already have. The 1837 and 1840 appear to be different. I wasn't able to resolve the Newcomb number as of yet for the 1840 using DRN. What I come up with isn't close to any of the 6 possibilities.

Great purchase! Regarding the 1795 - I have an S-73 lettered edge and seem to remember that the planchet is thicker than the plain varieties. Can anyone confirm that?

Following up on the discussion whether the Op's 1795 cent could be lettered edge. In case anyone is interested yes I was correct that the planchet is thicker and of course heavier. 13.48 grams vs 10.89 grams.

However here's a tidbit from PCGS CoinFacts

"Sheldon 76a is the last of the heavyweight Large Cents. Lighter version were made later in the year using the same dies -- these are known as S-76b. However, some of the heavyweight planchets bypassed the edge lettering process, thus we have a few S-76a's without edge lettering -- these are known as S-76a/b, they are generally considered to be mint errors, and they are not required in a complete die variety collection. To make things even more interesting, an S-76 exists with edge lettering on a thin planchet."
