By the way, talking about trading quantity for quality! The '89-CC pictures are much better in showing the coin details and overall condition  . What I like about the 1795 is its reflection of the primitive methods used for minting coins back then. I can just imagine the worker filing, weighing, and back again until it was just right. |

Impressive pickup barryg, learned something new again with the "adjustment marks" with the dime. I wonder how NGC specialists determined when those marks were made.

Quote:the IHC, in particular, is gorgeous. I agree! It was definitely the highlight of my haul and is, I'm pretty sure, officially the most valuable coin in my collection. In years past I wouldn't have dreamed of purchasing a coin that expensive, but now that I just turned 60 and can see retirement on the near horizon, I figured it was time to start making a serious purchase or two. It helps that our mortgage is paid off, our son's college tuition is fully funded (with only one more year to go), and we should have enough in our 401Ks to comfortably retire in a few years without needing to dip into our savings. Oh -- and we just replaced the roof on our house, repaved the driveway and replaced the fence. Aside from someday possibly redoing the kitchen, I figure there shouldn't be any more big expenses on the horizon. And if I'm wrong, well, I guess I can always sell the coin, right? The nice thing about getting a key date in really nice condition is that it should hold its value (at the very least). |
