but I think that CAC holdered does not mean that it would have stickered.

IMO this was/is a huge marketing mistake for CAC. Before they began service as a TPG a green bean on a holder had a consistent and well understood meaning - the coin contained within was judged to be solid for the assigned grade.

Today - well the meaning is confusing. Does the CAC green bean on the OP half dollar mean it is a solid G06? I don't think so, but can't say for sure.

In the pursuit of more profits CAC has messed up a solid reputation IMO.

If one trusts a CAC sticker to mean "the coin contained within was judged to be solid for the assigned grade", shouldn't one believe a coin graded by CAC is also solid for the grade? Or, do we need another company to evaluate CAC graded coins and apply their approval sticker?

if you compare the grades from G4 to VG8. I think they ignored the rims and the only grades where you can see any part of the obv shield is VG8 as well as the detail on the flag and a strong date. the stars are also sharper than a G coin and the eye and even the mouth are defined. add to that all the devices on the reverse with the exception of the rim again is at the VG level. I think you have a weakly stuck coin and they net graded it G6. when you look at the definition of obv the denticles from K8 to K2 and rev from K2-K8 and compare those areas to their opposite sides it also points to strike

To me, this coin is properly graded by CAC under the ANA grading standards, so I agree with their grading of G6.

I have seen many details coins with much less in scratches than this coin!

I checked my ANA guide and it says for G-4 that 3/4 of the rim has to be present on the obverse. I'm not seeing that on this coin.

I thought it had to be full rim, so I learned something today.

It looks slightly better than a 4 so G-6 fits.

It's not green beaned. That's the standard look for cacg slab. There's a few things pertaining to cacg and cac stickering that are fuzzy at best. Any coin you see that has a plus + grade with a green sticker doesn't mean they agree with the plus at all. In fact, they can and do disagree with the plus often but if the numeric grade is good for the grade then they will sticker it. The sticker doesn't correlate to the plus at all. Also, a coin in a cacg holder does not mean it would have stickered if it were in another TPG holder. In fact, there's many coins that wouldn't get the sticker that are in cacg holders.

thats an interesting statement as a lot of folks have been talking about this. apparently the two divisions must be separate and apart from each other and the CAC side does not care if the coin is in a CAC holder when it makes it decisions, which is good to know.

I thought the whole selling point when CAC began its own grading service was that their holdered coins did not need to be stickered. That is, a CACG MS-65 is as solid and accurate as a PCGS MS-65 with the CAC bean.

I suppose in a world with gradeflation exists, this is to be expected. Maybe PCGS should start offering a service to evaluation CACG coins.

CACG was the equivalent to getting a green bean. The difference is they grade details, cleaned, etc coins.

CACG is headquarter in Virginia Beach and CAC Stickering in New Jersey, two separate entities. John Albanese is directly involved in the stickering division and generally not with the Grading division.
The stickering is still the best confirmation of a quality grade in my opinion.
