Going to have to agree - 1914D
As for what I would buy - think I would go for a complete set of Franklin halves. Don't think I would grab a set already put together, I'ld chase them down one at a time just for the enjoyment, even if it cost me more.

Buy that key. They usually outperform the coin market in general.

If I had an extra expendable $500, I would upgrade some of the tougher S mint Barber dimes in my Dansco. I am trying to get all VF.

Out of all your choices, finishing the set seems to make the most sense. But if you only knew the power of the darkside...

i think that means world coins? if I am correct I know the darkside all to well I have albums full of them given to me by my grandfather in 2x2 sorted by country date and denomination he was mainly a world coin collector. I started like that but I have become more of a u.s. collector and more of a world coin type collector

i would get the 14-d or the commemorative you like, gold is pretty high right now so I probably wouldn't go there,

if I had 550 to spend I think I would go for a nice ms63 type coin for my collection,
Rest in Peace

I would make a post in the want to buy forum listing the top half dozen coins I wanted. You may get some very nice offers, and help out fellow CCFers. Also ask to be pointed towards any deals others have seen.

You can read the threads started by other members to see how you might word it.

Here: http://www.coincommunity.com/forum/...?FORUM_ID=15

It never hurts to ask! Just like you did here, but in the ready, willing, and able forum.

Good luck!

Okay, Scott3270, does this mean you've got albums full of darkside material you don't want?

Buy a 14-D.

I would buy a Maryland Commemorative in MS-65. Spend the rest on my wife and daughter.

This is a trick question because you are asking a question you most likely have an answer to already. I am jealous for the fact you have $550 to spend on coins when my budget is about $20 a month if I am lucky. My problem is that when I do save the money up for a nice key date coin, I walk in and see everything else the dealer has to offer and get side tracked. I find it easier to justify buying multiple coins than one when I tell my wife what I have bought. Deep down I think you know that the key date is what you want because silver and gold are going up and down and if you get a gold coin, you will want the rest. Finish up the set you have as much as possible and then move on to something else, that is what I would do, but then again, I am not you (and I would love to have that dilemma, LOL).

Well, if having this much at once to spend at one time is a rare thing I think I'd drop it all on one coin, probably the 14d. You need it, you rarely have that kind of money (if you're like me) so go for it. Although it would be pretty cool to pick up several of those early s mints and such it would be a lot easier to come up with the money to buy those one at a time later.

I think if it were me I'd probably be looking at the same choices. I need a 14d also and I'd like to upgrade a lot of the earlier wheaties but then I need some late 60s and early 70s IHCs also.

It would be a fun problem to have though. Enjoy yourself.

If I were you I would not listen to anyone here except me. With that money you could buy coins you need, want or just like. However, if the economy continues to plumit downward, those coins would be a bad investment so here is my solution. Send me that money. I'll buy few coins taht I need or want, spend time at the neighborhood bar with a Martini, take my neighbors out for a nice dinner.
You now do not have to worry about what to do with any money at all.

If I had 500 to spend on coins, I would get a 1928-p peace in AU and a 1927-S Peace in AU. If I had anything left after that, it would go into the commons I am missing for that set.
