I'm not sure what you could report him for. The listings are not on ebay USA, so the rules related to the US Hobby Protection Law don't apply. Neither would the new rules for Canadian copies that ebay has in place for ebay Canada and US.

I did report the listings several hours ago, before realizing the listings are in a different section of ebay.

Hi,
I had reported him a few days ago...
ebay does not care one bit.
However, just make a tiny little mistake and list a canadian coin in US dollars and indicate it is ICCS graded....BANG... you are the criminal in ebays eyes.
my single coin I had listed BANG, a stern warning!! it violates ebayS policy..
listing removed!
see here , a copy of their email!!
it is a joke...., a real joke..fact is, when you list on ebay Canada...the DEFAULT currency is US DOLLARS...!!! if you do not purposely change it..that is it...
my emails to them regarding this... guess!!
NO reply. perhaps in some "unknown" ebay service country in some palm shack they have only standard reply forms....
sorry guys and girls...but NO insult intended.
here is the reply;

**PLEASE READ THIS IMPORTANT EMAIL REGARDING YOUR LISTING(S)**

We appreciate that you chose ebay to list the following auction-style
listing(s):

320400883013 - 1892 CANADA Kanada 10 CENTS SMALL 9 OBV 5 ICCS VF20

However, your (s) violates ebay's Counterfeit Currency and Stamps policy
and has been removed. In accordance with our User Agreement, items
prohibited by law or by ebay policy are not allowed on ebay.

IMPORTANT NOTICE: If you relist this, or any other item that violates
ebay policy, your ebay privileges could be suspended. We value you as a
member of our community and wish to continue this relationship, so we
must ask you to refrain from further violations of the User Agreement
and ebay policy.

Please review ebay's Prohibited and Restricted Items guidelines and User
Agreement at the following locations:

http://pages.ebay.com/help/sell/item_allowed.html
http://pages.ebay.com/help/policies...reement.html

Listings on the CA site listed in US currency must abide by US site
policies. As such, sellers may not state that coins graded by unapproved
grading companies are "certified" or "graded" and are prohibited from
using a numeric grade in the title or mentioning the grading company
name anywhere in the listing.

this whole crap beats me... I will start my own auctions soon...]
anyone interested?

I investigated this listing and found that it has already been removed
from our site.

Again, thank you for your report. We appreciate your help in keeping
ebay a safe and reputable forum to conduct business.

The removal was a pleasant surprise.

I received an email from someone at ebay yesterday thanking me for reporting the listings. She agreed they violated policy and removed all of them. She even included her name on the email. :)

perhaps a few of all should contact Belgian police to find out if it is legal in Belgium?

I understand your frustrations; ebay is large and faceless, which can make it difficult to deal with them.

But you want to contact the Belgian police to find out if it is illegal for someone to sell copies of 140-year-old French coins? Something makes me think they won't care.

ebay removed the listings that violated ebay policy (the US and Canadian copies). For some reason that is not enough for you. And on the other hand, they removed your listing which violated ebay policy, and for some other reason ebay crossed the line with you.

Regarding your item's removal: even though ebay's language to you seems strongly worded, they didn't tell you that they "would" suspend your privileges if you made the mistake again. They said they "could" suspend your privileges.

As you previously said, I don't mean to insult you, either. Just wanted to provide some perspective.

Steve,
your reply seems to suggest a personal thing here, NOT based on the objective to get rid of fake and forged coins.
I am not sure what you have on your mind.
You obviously did not check this persons listings very closely.
He is ( and was) not only selling French coins.
As far as ebay removing my listing.... well, what is worse I ask you?
Making an honest mistake by falling in to Ebays default settings trap which list automatically in USD, unless the seller changes it. It is smartley very small and easy to forget, and as a consequence being labeled by ebay's rules as attempting to sell forgeries because of their trap?( I am not sure if you would like that...)
Or selling fakes? For you it does not seem to make any difference.
Did you ever fall victim of a shyster selling excellent fakes? (Well, I did 3 years ago...a New Jersey man sold me fakes. Yes I bought the coins in the believe they were authentic, while he knew they were NOT.) I found out the hard way. And ebay did nothing!!

Somehow, I do not think YOU have any experience of that kind.
Otherwise your reactions would be different. I also do believe you have not seen any fakes in reality. Canadian Dollar and 50 cent fakes are popping up everywhere, but mostly in EUROPE.
YOU have missed the whole issue because you jumped to a conclusion and made this a personal issue. For whatever reason., beats me.
The issue being that HOPEFULLY, we all are in agreement that Fakes, wherever they come from, and wherever they are, should NOT be allowed on ebay, or anyplace else! REGARDLESS of what country they are listed in!they are available to the world... and that undermines YOUR collection value and possibly ethics!
It appears you do not agree with this. However, that is your business.
I will do whatever I can to be instrumental in removing Forgeries and Fake coins from the market place. And if that means to call the Police in Belgium, SO BE IT. (I have had 3 sellers charged in Germany for selling Canadian dollar forgeries, a 4th is to come very soon).
Enough said

I have no idea what you are talking about.

I plainly stated that you made a mistake...and did not accuse you have trying to sell fakes. Maybe it is a "trap", as you say, but I have no idea what ebay would gain by setting such a trap. I don't have a full understanding of how you broke the ebay rules.

And you would be wrong.

In order for there to be a stronger impact, the rules at ebay need to be changed. I was glad to hear about the recent clampdown on Canadian copies on ebay, including the ones that *do* have "copy" or "replica" stamped on them. Hopefully there will be a change like that for US copies (forgeries). But when you start bringing all the coins of the world into the equation, including those that may not (or may be?) still legal tender, it seems like from a legal standpoint the issue is not necessarily so straight forward.

Where do you draw the line? Should ebay prohibit the selling of fake (or copy) Widow's mites (listed as "fake" in the listing)?
