Their stuff always looks nice in the pictures. The 8.5% sales tax stops me from buying from them.... I see a lot of coins I think should be in slabs which leads me to the question why are they not as the would sell for more.

with the other sentiments on GSC. I've seen many of their coins, and have wondered how they look in-hand to their pics.

I agree with Richard, I try to avoid buying in State cause of the sales tax. Not all the time but it kills me to have to pay it.

These are reputable sellers on ebay, I have had pleasant transactions with all. http://keydaterarecoins.com/ Tom is great! You can call him to discuss pretty much anything. Plus he lets you buy outside of ebay for less $$$ because of fees! As good as it gets. You can trust his raw coins. He has told me in the past that he does not mind buying back and coin from his inventory, which says a lot for a dealer on ebay. The Numismatic Financial Corp. - These guys are as professional as they come, + orders are shipped priority/tracking/insurance/signature confirmation/ for $7.60! http://www.nfccoins.com/ (also on ebay) Coin Gallery of Boca Raton http://stores.shop.ebay.com/CoinGalleryofBocaRaton -ebay- http://coingalleryofbocaraton.com/-Great and Knowledgeable People .

Quote: Anyone ever use Great Southern Coins? Yes. I have about 6 or 7 of their coins. They do have great pictures. If you can recreate the exact lighting, your coin will look like the pictures. Unfortunately, that lighting is usually hard to come by and therefore your coin will look a bit worse in hand than in their pictures, I have found. I factor that in before I bid on GSC coins. (Bump down the perceived grading of that coin one notch and that's pretty accurate.) They do have a good selection generally so I wouldn't totally stay away from them. They just have "optimistic" pictures.

I really like APMEX, and so far their grading seems honest.

I'm a bit on the pessimistic side when it comes to purchasing anything via the internet. Especially ebay. And the problem with asking that question about good dealers, that too is rather a possilbe risk. The reason is you don't know who is doing the recommending. Well may be an employee of the dealer they are bragging about. Then too many blurt out the name of a dealer with no or very little actual, personal experience, only what they heard from someone that heard it from someone. I really would ignor suggestions about great on line dealers from people you don't know. They really have nothing to loose if wrong. One of my problems with dealers or almost any organization is when new, many have great deals, fantastic prices, wonderfull services. Then as their buisness grows, some or most of this vanishes since now they know there are many others out there that may buy, buy, buy. I've seen this with coin stores in my area over the years. Also, with grocery stores, furniture stores, department stores, etc. Possibly one of the many reasons so many go out of buisness. My usual suggestion is to try to find coin shows in your area. If there are any, go there. Also, check for coin clubs in your area. And of course members right here. I don't think I've really heard anyone complaining about a deal with a member on this forum.

Yes Carl I know what you are saying, I have had very good experiences with a few online dealers, only a few I was not really happy with and would not do business with them again. E Bay I really don;t like at all, I know there are a few very good dealers there but they have to be weeded out of the rest and I don't have the patients for that. I do most of my buying at shows, there I can see and handle what I am buying, but there are always times I have to buy online.

And I really don't know why this happens so often but over the years I've seen it way to many times. And as I've said not just coins but many other buisnesses. One place I worked at was the greatest place on Earth for a while. Then they started hiring idiots for management as they grew. Those treated people pretty bad and eventually that place went out of buisness and clients tried to tell the owners why but as usual, didn't listen. A famous coin store I used to frequent almost weekly sold to someone and the place went downhill the same as so many other places. It just seams to be human nature to build something up and then run it down.

I just got an order back from APMEX, and am still very satisfied with the service. And no, I am not affiliated with them or any other shop or online dealer, I operate boilers.
