This is another reason I will not buy anything from the Mint. Why go out of your way to make a nice coin and/or set for a collector if you do not care if they get it or not? If I pay a premium for something I feel that it should cover some way to make sure I get it.

The problem is that there really is no one to blame and no way to find out what happened. Your delivery person may be the most honest person on earth and made a simple mistake, the package could have been placed in the wrong route with similar address or the neighbors could have had company that took it on the way out.

The part you may want to look into right now for future issues is the way your mail is delivered to your unit. If you are in a condo, town home or apartment you need to see why your HOA or owner does not have a larger box for parcels. The last place I lived was a condo complex and the smartest thing they did was put rows of mailboxes at the entrance to the complex with a few larger boxes for parcels. We never had a lost package this way and the confusion with neighbors mail was at a minimum. Just a thought.

Not trying to rub it in, but my Chronicles set fit in my mail box with a little room to spare. I have to agree with the aforementioned, that Delivery Confirmation is a feel good program for the post office. It was delivered, but to where?

success...

just said delivery confirmation simply can mean it was delivered to my building and I should purchase insurance

With delivery confirmation, having insurance will only protect you if the package is damaged.

Sure you could have insurance, but if it isn't insured for over $200 it doesn't have to be signed for. So it could still be left at the wrong place and then guess what, the insurance will NOT pay off because the package was delivered.

And as for the insurance still covering because of damage, you'll have to have the package to show the damage. If it was delivered to the wrong address, no package, no insurance.

People like to think that the current shipping method where you only pay one shipping fee is better than the old system years ago where the shipping cost was included in the price. But at least back then everything was shipped registered mail and had to be signed for.

That's incorrect. The post office gets a signature no matter how much insurance is bought but it's for internal use only in case of a claim. If it's got the blue tag, they're supposed to get a signature. However, the sender nor the recipient has access to it. If the sender wants a signature provided on the package no matter what, then he has to buy it even if the package is insured and the PO is getting one anyway.

I've never been asked to sign for under $200 insured package, they just leave it in the mail box. I do normally have to sign for the over $200 packages, but sometimes they just leave those as well.

Trust me, they're supposed to get a signature for every blue tag.

Just received a replacement shipment today. A few weeks late, but I still love it when I see it. This Christmas is a nice one.
Here is a chronological order of things happened:
Called USMINT once I found out the package is gone 10/29/09
Talked to USPS several times to recheck everywhere ans was told no claim is allowed because it's not insured 10/30-11/7/09
Received a claim form from USMINT; 11/17/09
Filled out form explained the situation and sent back; 11/18/09
Got an notice about a new shippment is coming with UPS tracking number;12/09/09
Arrived today. 12/10/09

Never heard back from USPS about the management decision about the lost package even though they said they would call me.

Hat's off to USMINT for providing customer satisfaction. If you think about it, it is the USPS lost my package.

It is nice to see a great ending to an apparent nightmare of a problem.....PS, I have seen and heard of the mail delivery people( whom ever they were ) leaving a $20.00 gold proof coin( valued at $1400.00, at doors or near the front door on the ground and just left to continue their route.....Enjoy the set, it is well worth the wait....

Wheezy:

I do like it. My LP2 and LP3 obverse are partially toned on the cameo parts. But overall I think it's worth $60.

Thanks Morgan's Dad.

That's OK, the USPS "lost" the contents of a package I went to pick up. It was a 1914-D Lincoln, PCGS VF35 with excellent eye appeal. Thankfully Liberty Coins shipped it insured and USPS covered the cost. But I was still upset because I searched high and low for the right coin at the right price, and I was all excited to go pick it up.

I checked the regs, the under $200 insured does NOT have to be signed for. If your carrier is getting you to sign for it they are just "going the extra mile."

I'm glad to hear that the mint provided proper customer service. The USPS is always a different story.
